A method of flow injection back titration is disclosed for providing on-line chemical analyses of a process stream where the species of interest is not directly titratable. A stream of titrant is formed and then a sample and an excess of back-titrant are added to the stream of titrant. The back-titrant is allowed to react with the sample and then the remaining back-titrant is reacted with the titrant.
