Errors introduced by NLOS (non line of sight) conditions in a determination of a position of the wireless communication station calculated by way of a trilateration technique are corrected. If too few signals are received at the wireless communication station to permit a determination of its position using a ray tracing pattern recognition technique, an estimate of the position of the wireless communication station is also determinable. When implemented in a cellular communication system, accurate position determinations are made even when the mobile station is operated in a non-ideal propagation environment, such as an urban area.

The communication device then determines whether to employ an antenna array beamforming technique based on any one or more of the determined bearing and the determined direction of arrival, the determined distance, or the determined signal quality metrics, thereby optimizing the usage of the antenna array beamforming technique.

In a first embodiment of the invention, when an Activate PDP Context Request message is forwarded to a Service GPRS Support Node (SGSN), the SGSN creates a Create PDP Context Request message and forwards it to a Gateway GPRS Support Node (GGSN). In response to the Create PDP Context Request forwarded by the SGSN, the GGSN creates a Create PDP Context Response message. When a PDP context is created by the GGSN, the GGSN associates a Globally Unique Charging Identification (GCI) with the PDP context. Then, the Create PDP Context Response including the GCI is forwarded to the SGSN. The GCI is sent from the SGSN to the UE and from the UE to the CSCF. In a second embodiment of the invention, the GCI is sent from the SGSN or the GGSN directly to the Call State Control Function (CSCF). Sending the GCI can be performed either autonomously or based on a request from the CSCF. In either embodiment, the CSCF can send the GCI to a second network which performs processing, such as billing, from data collected from call detail records associated with the GCI.

A video signal of an event is digitized as soon as it is recorded and sent to a location remote from the event. The digitized video includes timestamps marking the time at which frames of the video were recorded. A person, watching the event but quite possibly taking no part in the recording of the video, separately enters a text or other type of message into his mobile terminal and sends it to the remote location. The text message, and the portion of the digitized video signal corresponding in time to the message, are automatically marked and placed in a file. The file and the video segment can be made available in an interactive application to other persons with little delay.
