An economizer apparatus (109) for a fossil fuel fired vapor generation apparatus (10) which includes a housing having an inlet and an outlet and a wall extending generally between the inlet and the outlet to define first and second flow paths in the housing. The inlet may include means for connection to an associated vapor generation apparatus and means for connection to an associated stack. Heat exchange tubing (112) is disposed in the first flow path having the interior thereof coupled to associated working fluid of the vapor generation apparatus (10). The apparatus (109) also includes apparatus (114) in the second flow path to control flow in the second flow path. In most embodiments of the invention the apparatus (109) also includes a bypass conduit (120) for selectively directing fluid flow around the heat exchange tubing (112). Ordinarily this will be desirable when the damper (114) is obstructing fluid flow in the second flow channel.

An extrudable material (1), such as a hot melt adhesive, is applied to a substrate (2) with simultaneous irradiation by a laser beam (9). The energy of the laser is absorbed by the adhesive and the substrate (2) to cause the adhesive to spread into the fabric. When applied to a gap (17) between two substrate sheets (2), the extrudable material creates a very strong bond. When one of the substrate materials (21) is porous, the extrudable material will penetrate the thickness of the material and contact a lower layer (19) to form a bond. The extrudable material is applied through a nozzle, and the laser beam (9) is directed through the nozzle to be coaxial with the flow path (11) of the extrudable material. The coaxial arrangement facilitates movement of the nozzle and beam in complicated patterns and ensures simultaneous application of the extrudable material (1) and the laser beam (9).

An internal combustion engine has at least one set of first and second cylinders (12, 14), the first cylinder (12) having a larger swept volume than the second cylinder (14), and respective first and second pistons (16, 18) movable in the cylinders. The pistons are coupled together such that they are movable in the cylinders in a cyclic manner at the same frequency. An air inlet (24) and an exhaust outlet open into the first cylinder and a fuel injector (34) provides fuel to the second cylinder. A combustion space (20) is also provided which communicates with both cylinders during at least a portion of the expansion stroke. The second piston has a crown (35) and a body portion (19), with the crown being spaced from and connected to the body portion and having an edge (37) which is relatively small in the axial direction compared to the distance between the crown and the body portion in the axial direction. The combustion space (20) is defined between the piston crown and body portion and a sidewall (14a) of the second cylinder. The gap (128) between the crown edge (37) and the cylinder wall (14a) serves to inhibit ingression of fuel into the combustion space (20) until towards the end of the compression stroke. Access means (30) associated with the second cylinder for admitting fuel and/or air to the second cylinder during the induction stroke comprises a port (33) opening into the second cylinder and a valve (31) for controlling port.

The invention pertains to medicine, specifically to methods of improving the health of a human patient. The method in essence involves linear and rotary massage in the projection zones of the body's organs and other parts in a defined sequence, namely: spine, heart, upper extremities, head, anterior neck surface, mammary glands, anterior surface of the lungs, solar plexus, oesophagus, stomach, pancreas, duodenum, spleen, liver and gall bladder, intestines, rectum, anus, on the anterior projection of the kidney, ureter, sexual organs, hip joints, lumbosacral region, gluteal muscles, lower extremities. To act on the heart, other areas are massaged, namely: jugular vein, left clavicular vein, the region of the left shoulder joint, left shoulder blade region and the region of 6-8 ribs of the left mid-clavicular line. This is completed by simultaneous rotary massage in opposite directions of the anterior and posterior projections of the heart, each massage movement being finished by clenching the hand into a fist, withdrawing it, and opening it out 10-12 cm from the body surface, the same procedure being repeated above the body surface, and finished by massage of the reflex zones of the foot.
