(EN) A smoking device (2) comprises an optical sensing system (5) for reading indicia (10) on a consumable article (1). Means are provided for adapting a characteristic of the optical sensing system (5) in response to a distance of the indicia (10) from the optical sensing system (5). The adapting means may change the focal length of an optical element (120) by applying a potential difference to change a refractive index of the optical element (120) or to change the curvature of an optical surface (130). The optical surface (130) may be an interface between two immiscible liquids (122,124) that have different electrical properties. The adapting means may alternatively move an element of the optical sensing system (5) in response to the distance of the indicia (10), for example by changing a shape of a support of an optical element (120). The optical element may comprise a pinhole (20) and the adapting means may change the size of its aperture.
(FR) L'invention concerne un dispositif à fumer (2) comprenant un système de détection optique (5) permettant de lire des marques (10) sur un article consommable (1). Des moyens sont prévus pour adapter une caractéristique du système de détection optique (5) en réponse à une distance des marques (10) par rapport au système de détection optique (5). Le moyen d'adaptation peut modifier la longueur focale d'un élément optique (120) par une application d'une différence de potentiel en vue de modifier un indice de réfraction de l'élément optique (120) ou de modifier la courbure d'une surface optique (130). La surface optique (130) peut être une interface entre deux liquides non miscibles (122, 124) qui ont des propriétés électriques différentes. Le moyen d'adaptation peut alternativement déplacer un élément du système de détection optique (5) en réponse à la distance des marques (10), par exemple en changeant la forme d'un support d'un élément optique (120). L'élément optique peut comprendre un trou d'épingle (20) et le moyen d'adaptation peut en modifier la taille d'ouverture.
