Claims

1. An additive to control the hydration reaction at early age of cements

comprising clinkers based on Ye’elimite, comprising

a) at least one set retarder S selected from the group consisting of calcium complexing agents, and

b) at least one regulator R of the general formula (I)


where M is H, NhU or chosen from a monovalent or divalent metal of the groups la, lla, Ilia, lb, Mb, IVb, Vlb, VI lb or VI I lb of the periodic table of elements, and, where M is a divalent metal, a second equivalent of R-SO3 is present, and where, preferably, M is chosen from the group consisting of H, NH4, Li, Na, K, MgX, CaX, or NiX with X = RSO3, and where R is chosen from H, NH2, OH or from a hydrocarbon chain with 1 -18 C atoms which may be substituted by N and/or O and/or which may be linear or branched and/or which may contain one or more unsaturated bonds and/or cycloaliphatic and/or aromatic moieties.

2. An additive according to claim 1 characterized in that the at least one set retarder S is selected from the group consisting of sugar acids, sugars, sugar alcohols, hydroxycarboxylic acids, phosphates, phosphonates, borates, and amines.

3. An additive according to any one of claims 1 -2, characterized in that the at least one set retarder S is gluconic acid or one of its metal salts, preferably alkali metal salts, especially S is sodium gluconate.

4. An additive according to any one of claims 1 -3, characterized in that the at least one regulator R of the general formula (I) is chosen from the group consisting of methylsulfonic acid, phenylsulfonic acid, toluenesulfonic acid, naphthylsulfonic acid, sodium tetrapropylenebenzenesulfonate, sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate, amidosulfonic acid, N-cyclohexyl-2- aminoethanesulfonic acid, taurine, and sulfanilic acid.

5. An additive according to any one of claims 1 -4, characterized in that the molar ratio of the at least one set retarder S to the at least one regulator R is from 1 :2 to 1 :450 mol/mol, preferably from 1 : 10 to 1 :400 mol/mol, more preferably from 1 :20 to 1 :300 mol/mol.

6. A cementitious binder comprising

a) at least one clinker based on Ye’elimite,

b) at least one set retarder S selected from the group consisting of calcium complexing agents, and

c) at least one regulator R of the general formula (I)


where M is H, NhU or chosen from a monovalent or divalent metal of the groups la, lla, Ilia, lb, Mb, IVb, Vlb, VI lb or VI I lb of the periodic table of elements, and, where M is a divalent metal, a second equivalent of R-SO3 is present, and where, preferably, M is chosen from the group consisting of H, NH4, Li, Na, K, MgX, CaX, or NiX with X = RSO3, and where R is chosen from H, NH2, OH or from a hydrocarbon chain with 1 -18 C atoms which may be substituted by N and/or O and/or which may be linear or branched and/or which may contain one or more unsaturated bonds and/or cycloaliphatic and/or aromatic moieties.

7. A cementitious binder according to claim 6, characterized in that the clinker contains 5 - 95 w%, preferably 10 - 80 w%, more preferred 20 - 70 w%, each based on the total dry weight of the clinker, of Ye’elimite.

8. An cementitious binder according to claims 6 or 7, characterized in that the at least one set retarder S is selected from the group consisting of sugar acids, sugars, sugar alcohols, hydroxycarboxylic acids, phosphates, phosphonates, borates, and amines.

9. A cementitious binder according to claim 6 or 7, characterized in that it contains 5 - 99 w% of clinker, 0.01 - 2 w% of sodium gluconate, and 0.1 - 6 w% of the at least one regulator R of the general formula (I).

10. A cementitious mixture comprising the cementitious binder according to any one of claims 6-9, said cementitious mixture further comprising

a) water,

b) optionally aggregates, and

c) optionally one or more further additives selected from the group

consisting of plasticizers, superplasticizers, shrinkage reducers, air entrainers, deaerating agents, stabilizers, viscosity modifiers, water reducers, accelerators, retarders, water resisting agents, strength enhancing additives, fibres, blowing agents, pigments, and steel passivating agents.

11.A method for control of the hydration reaction at early age of a cement or a cementitious mixture, comprising the steps of

a) providing a clinker or a cement or a cementitious mixture based

on Ye’elimite,

b) providing at least one set retarder S selected from the group

consisting of calcium complexing agents,

c) providing at least one regulator R of the general formula (I), d) providing water,

e) optionally providing aggregates,

f) optionally providing further additives, and

g) mixing a) to f) in any given order.

12. A method according to claim 11 , characterized in that the at least one set retarder S and the at least one regulator R are provided as individual components during any steps of the mixing.

13. A method according to claim 11 , characterized in that the at least one set retarder S and the at least one regulator R are provided as a one

component pre-mix during any step of the mixing.

14. The use of at least one regulator R of the general formula (I)


where M is H, NhU or chosen from a monovalent or divalent metal of the groups la, lla, Ilia, lb, Mb, IVb, Vlb, VI lb or VI I lb of the periodic table of elements, and, where M is a divalent metal, a second equivalent of R-SO3 is present, and where, preferably, M is chosen from the group consisting of H, NH4, Li, Na, K, MgX, CaX, or NiX with X = RSO3, and where R is chosen from H, NH2, OH or from a hydrocarbon chain with 1 -18 C atoms which may be substituted by N and/or O and/or which may be linear or branched and/or which may contain one or more unsaturated bonds and/or cycloaliphatic and/or aromatic moieties,

to control the hydration reaction at early age of a clinker, cement or cementitious mixture.

15. The use according to claim 14, characterized in that the clinker, cement or cementitious mixture is based on Ye’elimite.

16. The use according to any one of claims 14-15, characterized in that the clinker, cement, or cementitious mixture contains a set retarder S.

17. The use of an additive according to any one of claims 1 -5 as a grinding aid in the production of a cementitious binder, preferably in the production of a cement based on Ye’elimite.

18. Shaped articles, especially a building or part of a building, obtainable by curing a cementitious binder or a cementitious mixture according to any one of claims 6-10.
