Claims

1. A wear member ( 12) of a mechanically attached wear plate system (10) including a mounting base (22) attached to a wear surface (20), the wear member (12) comprising:

a mounting side (42) and a wear exposed side (44) opposite said mounting side (42),

a retainer passage (84) extending between the wear exposed side (44) and the mounting side (42),

at least a first dovetail flange (80, 82) extending from the mounting side (42) and including at least one wear member engagement surface (66, 68) and at least a first wear member abutment surface (148, 150) substantially adjacent the retainer passage (84), the wear member engagement surface (66, 68) includes an undercut such that the dovetail flange (80, 82) increases in size from the mounting side (42) of the wear member (12).

2. The wear member (12) of claim 1 further including a second dovetail flange (80, 82) extending from the mounting side (42) and disposed along a side of the retainer passage (84) opposite the first dovetail flange (80, 82), the second dovetail flange (80, 82) including at least one wear member engagement surface (66, 68) and at least a second wear member abutment surface (148, 150) substantially adjacent the retainer passage (84) and opposite the first wear member abutment surface (148, 150), the wear member engagement surface (66, 68) of the second dovetail flange (80, 82) including an undercut such that the second dovetail flange (80, 82) increases in size from the mounting side (42) of the wear member (12).

3. The wear member (12) of claim 2 wherein the first and second dovetail flanges (80, 82) each include at least two wear member engagement surfaces (66, 68).

4. The wear member (12) of any of claims 1-3 having a substantially round disc-like shape.

5. The wear member (12) of any of claims 1-4 wherein the wear member (12) includes a wear member base (36) and an outward wear member (38), the wear member base (36) including the mounting side (42) and the at least one dovetail flange (80, 82), the outward wear member (38) including the wear exposed side (44), the outward wear member (38) being secured to the wear member base (36).

6. The wear member (12) of any of claims 1-5 including an apron (50) extending about a periphery of the wear member (12) from the mounting side (42).

7. A mounting base (22) for a mechanically attached wear plate system (10) for attachment of a replaceable wear member (12) to a wear surface (20) of a parent member (14), the mounting base (22) comprising:

a substantially disc-shaped body (26), the body including a mounting surface (28),

an outward surface (30) disposed opposite the mounting surface

(28),

a substantially annular outer peripheral surface (32) extending between the mounting surface (28) and the outward surface (30),

a retainer opening (86) in the outward surface 30, the retainer opening (86) having

opposed sides (96, 98),

opposed ends (92, 94) extending between the opposed sides (96, 98),

at least first and second mounting base abutment surfaces (120, 122) along opposed sides,

at least first and second engagement recesses (70, 72) within the opposed sides (96, 98), respectively, the first and second engagement recesses (70, 72) including at least one undercut surface.

8. The mounting base (22) of claim 7 wherein at least one of the engagement recesses (70, 72) includes an arcuate surface extending from one of the opposed sides (96, 98).

9. A mechanically attached wear plate system (10) for attachment to a wear surface (20) of a parent member (14) of an earthmoving machine, the system (10) comprising:

a mounting base (22) according adapted to be to the parent member (14), the mounting base (22) including a mounting surface (28) adapted to be disposed adjacent said wear surface (20) of the parent member (14), an outward surface (30) disposed opposite the mounting surface (28), a retainer opening (86) in the outward surface (30), the retainer opening (86) having opposed sides (96, 98) and opposed ends (92, 94) extending between the opposed sides (96, 98), at least first and second mounting base abutment surfaces (120, 122) disposed along the opposed sides (96, 98) of the retainer opening (86), at least a first engagement recess (70, 72) from one of the sides (96, 98) of the retainer opening (86), the first engagement recess (70, 72) including at least a first mounting base engagement surface (62, 64),

a wear member (12) according to any of claims 1-6, the first flange (80, 82) being sized to be received within the retainer opening (86) of the mounting base (22) and rotated into an engagement position with the first wear member engagement surface (66) engaging the first mounting base engagement surface (62, 64), the first wear member abutment surface (148, 150) being disposed substantially adjacent the retainer passage (84) when the first flange (80, 82) is rotated into the engagement position within the first engagement recess (70, 72),

a retainer member (24) having an expanded position and a compressed position, the retainer member (24) being sized for receipt through said retainer passage (84) and into said retainer opening (86) when disposed in the compressed position, and engaged and retained by said catch elements when disposed in the expanded position, the retainer member (24) having opposed retainer member (24) sides, the first and second mounting base (22) abutment surfaces being disposed substantially adjacent the opposed retainer member (24) sides, respectively, and the first wear member abutment surface (148, 150) being disposed substantially adjacent one of said opposed retainer member sides when the retainer member (24) is received within the retainer opening (86).

10. The mechanically attached wear plate system (10) of claim 9 wherein the wear member (12) further includes a second flange (82) extending from the mounting side (42), the second flange (82) including a second wear member engagement surface (66), the mounting base (22) further includes a second engagement recess (72) including a second mounting base engagement surface (64), the wear member apron (50) includes a substantially circular inner surface, and the outer peripheral surface of the mounting base (22) is substantially circular.
