A zircon body for use in glass manufacturing is provided containing zircon grains and an intergranular phase present between the zircon grains. The intergranular phase may contain silicon oxide. The body may be exposed to a halide to at least partially remove at least a majority of the silicon oxide contained in the intergranular phase from the outer portion or to at least partially remove the intergranular phase along an outer portion of the component.

Le corps de zircon destiné à être utilisé dans la fabrication du verre ci-décrit contient des grains de zircon et une phase intergranulaire présente entre lesdits grains de zircon. La phase intergranulaire peut contenir de l'oxyde de silicium. Le corps peut être exposé à un halogénure pour éliminer au moins partiellement au moins une grande partie de l'oxyde de silicium contenu dans la phase intergranulaire depuis la partie extérieure ou pour éliminer au moins partiellement la phase intergranulaire le long d'une partie extérieure du composant.
