A network device and method are directed towards providing one time content encryption for Video on Demand (VOD) broadcast services and Networked Personal Video Recorders (NPVRs) using unique encryption keys. As content is received by the network device, it is determined whether the content is for broadcast distribution to a consumer (102-104) and to be ingested into an NPVR/VOD server (112) for possible unicast distribution. If the content is for both distributions, it is encrypted using at least one control word (CW) key. The encrypted content is then copied into at least two streams, with the CW being encrypted with at least two different keys, one for broadcast distribution, and one for NPVR Programs. One stream may then be ingested by the NPVR/VOD server (112), while the other stream may be broadcast to a consumer (102-104). The encryption keys may be provided through EMMs to a consumer based on a purchase.

L'invention concerne un dispositif de réseau et un procédé pour crypter à la fois le contenu des services de diffusion de vidéo à la demande (VOD) et des magnétoscopes personnels mis en réseau (NPVR) en utilisant des clés de cryptage uniques. À mesure que le contenu est reçu par le dispositif de réseau, on détermine si le contenu doit être distribué par radiodiffusion à un consommateur et s'il doit être ingéré dans un serveur NPVR/VOD pour une possible diffusion unique. Si le contenu est prévu pour les deux distributions, il est crypté en utilisant au moins une clé constitué de mots de contrôle (CW). Le contenu crypté est ensuite copié dans au moins deux flux de données, le CW étant crypté avec au moins deux clés différentes, une pour la distribution par radiodiffusion, et l'autre pour les programmes du NPVR. Un flux de données peut ensuite être ingéré par le serveur NPVR/VOD tandis que l'autre flux de données peut être transmis à un consommateur. Les clés de cryptage peuvent être transmises à travers des EMM à un consommateur suite à un achat.
