CLAIMS

WHAT IS CLAIMED IS:

1. A method of forming a display, comprising:
providing an embossable material; and
embossing said embossable material to form a plurality of features including at least one geometric adhesive portion (360).

2. The method of claim 1, wherein said plurality of features includes posts (340) for a post-aligned bistable nematic-type display.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein said plurality of features includes spacers (350).

4. The method of claim 1, wherein said embossable material comprises a UV curable material.

5. The method of claim 1, further comprising filling said features with liquid crystal.

6. The method of claim 5, further comprising bonding a plate to said geometric adhesive portion (360).

7. The method of claim 1, further comprising a preliminary step of forming a master template, wherein said embossable material is embossed with said master template.

8. A liquid crystal device, comprising:
a first substrate;
a second substrate (330) spaced apart from said first substrate;

liquid crystal filling at least a portion of a space between said first and second substrates (330); and
a geometric adhesive bonding said first and second substrate (330).

9. The device of claim 8, wherein said geometric adhesive is formed in an embossable material.

10. The device of claim 8, wherein said first and second substrate (330) are substantially transparent.

11. The device of claim 8, wherein said first and second substrate (330) are flexible substrates (310, 330).

12. The device of claim 8, wherein said geometric adhesive includes a plurality of elongate members, said elongate materials having a width of less than about 1 micron and a pitch of less than about 3 microns.

13. The device of claim 8, wherein said geometric adhesives are used to bond components of an image forming layer (510).

14. The device of claim 8, wherein said geometric adhesives are used to bond an image processing layer (520) to other parts of said device.

15. The device of claim 8, wherein said geometric adhesive comprises cured UV curable material.

16. A display, comprising:
a display panel including a first substrate, a second substrate (330) spaced apart from said first substrate, and a geometric adhesive bonding said first and second substrate (330); and
an image processing unit coupled to said display panel.

17. The display of claim 16, wherein said display panel comprises a liquid crystal type panel.

18. The display of claim 16, wherein said display panel comprises a flexible display type panel.

19. The display of claim 16, further comprising a light source (110) coupled to said display panel.

20. A display system (100, 500) comprising:
a display having a display panel including a first substrate, a second substrate (330) spaced apart from said first substrate, and a geometric adhesive bonding said first and second substrate (330); and
an image processing unit (130) coupled to said display panel.
