Provided is a method and system for splitting a video stream into X minute video segments and further dividing those video segments into M multiplex files. Each multiplex file can have a Time to Live (TTL). This allows for part of the video to be deleted from disk by just removing a single multiplex file. The remaining multiplex files can be combined to play back the video at a reduced sample rate.

L'invention porte sur un procédé et un système consistant: à découper un flux vidéo en X petits segments; puis à diviser lesdits segments en M fichiers multiplexés présentant chacun une durée de vie limitée. On peut ainsi détecter certaines parties vidéo d'un disque en n'extrayant qu'un seul fichier multiplexé. Le reliquat des fichiers peut être combiné pour lire la vidéo avec un taux d'échantillonnage réduit.
