An advanced modular plug connector assembly (100) incorporating an insert assembly (150) disposed in the rear portion of the connector housing (102). In one embodiment, the connector has a plurality of ports (104) in multi-row configuration, and the insert assembly includes a substrate (140) adapted to receive one or more electronic components such as choke coils, transformers, or other signal conditioning elements or magnetics. The substrate (140) also interfaces with the conductors (120) of two modular ports of the connector, and is removable from the housing (102) such that an insert assembly (150) of a different electronics or terminal configuration can be substituted therefor. In this fashion, the connector can be configured to a plurality of different standards (e.g., Gigabit Ethernet and 10/100). In yet another embodiment, the connector assembly comprises a plurality of light sources (310) (e.g., LEDs) received within the housing. Methods for manufacturing the aforementioned embodiments are also disclosed.

L'invention concerne un ensemble connecteur à fiches modulaire perfectionné qui comprend un ensemble d'insertion se trouvant à l'arrière du boîtier. Selon une variante, le connecteur a plusieurs accès en multirangée, et il comprend un substrat recevant un ou plusieurs composants électroniques du type bobines d'arrêt, transformateurs ou autres éléments de traitement de signaux ou magnétiques. Le substrat assure l'interface avec les conducteurs de deux accès modulaires du connecteur, et il peut être retiré du boîtier de sorte qu'un ensemble d'insertion ayant une configuration électronique ou terminale différente puisse lui être substitué. Ainsi, le connecteur peut être configuré selon plusieurs normes différentes (par exemple, Gigabit Ethernet et 10/100). Selon une autre variante encore, l'ensemble connecteur comprend plusieurs sources lumineuses (par exemple, DEL) reçues dans le boîtier. On décrit enfin des procédés de fabrication correspondant à ces variantes.
