A composite fabric (18) for use in reinforcement, particularly tensile reinforcement, of cementitious boards and similar prefabricated building wall panels (10). The fabric is constructed as a mesh of continously coated, high modulus of elasticity strands. The high modulus strands are preferably bundled glass fibers encapsulated by alkali and water resistant thermoplastic material. The composite fabric also has suitable physical characteristics for embedment within the cement matrix (16) of the panels or boards closely adjacent the opposed faces thereof. The fabric provides long-lasting, high strength tensile reinforcement of the panels or boards regardless of their spatial orientation during handling. The reinforcement also enhances the impact resistance of the boards after installation. Included as part of the invention are methods for making the reinforcement, cementitious boards and panels including the reinforcement, and methods for manufacturing such boards and panels.

Cette invention a trait à un tissu composite (18) utilisé pour comme matériau de renfort, notamment en tant qu'armature tendue, pour plaques à base de ciment et panneaux préfabriqués de paroi d'édifice analogues (10). La structure de ce tissu se présente sous forme de maillage de brins enrobés sans interruption ayant un module d'élasticité élevé. Ces fils à module d'élasticité élevé sont, de préférence, des fibres de verre constituées en faisceaux encapsulées dans de l'alcali et dans un matériau thermoplastique hydrorésistant. Le tissu composite possède également des caractéristiques physiques le rendant apte à être noyé dans une matrice de ciment (16) de panneaux ou de plaques aux faces opposées contiguës. Ce tissu constitue une armature tendue à résistance élevée à la traction et durable pour panneaux ou plaques et ce, quelle que soit leur orientation spatiale en cours de manipulation. Ce tissu de renfort améliore également la résistance aux chocs des plaques une fois celles-ci installées. Cette invention, qui concerne également des procédés de fabrication de ce type de renfort ainsi que de plaques ou de panneaux à base de ciment le renfermant, porte, de surcroît, sur des procédés de production de ces plaques et panneaux.
