CLAIMS:
1. A mounting plate (12) adapted to be secured to the bed (14) of a press (2), the mounting plate comprising a first major side (66) having a surface for supporting the base plate (34 or 36) of an apparatus (16 or 18) to be operated by the press (2); a second major side (68) opposite to the first major side (66), for engagement with the press bed (14) and opposite minor sides (70, 72, 74 and 76) adjacent to said major sides (66 or 68); characterized by first latches (80, 82, 90) each mounted in one of first notches (81, 84, 92) in said minor sides for movement between a raised position in which the latch (80, 82, 90) projects above the first major side (66) and a lowered position in which the first major side (66) is uninterrupted by the latch (80, 82, 90); a second notch (96) opening into said first major side (66) at a position spaced from said minor sides (70, 72, 74 and 76), and a second latch (94) mounted in the second notch (96) in said major side (66), for movement between a raised position in which the second latch (94) projects from said first major side (66) and a lowered position in which said major side (66) is uninterrupted by the second latch (94), the latches (80, 82, 90, 94) being selectively moveable between their raised and their lowered positions for successively latching to the mounting plate (12), apparatus base plates (34 or 36) of differing profile.
2. A mounting plate as claimed in claim 1, characterized in that the latches (80, 82, 90, 94) are pivotally mounted in the notches (81, 84, 92, 96) for movement between their raised and their lowered positions, and have latching lips (95) which project over said first major side (66) in spaced relationship thereto in the raised positions of the latches (80, 82, 90, 94).

A mounting plate as claimed in claim 1 or 2, characterized in that at least one (80 or 94) of the latches is provided with means for locking it in both its raised and its lowered positions and is urged towards its raised position by resilient means (124 or 152), the locking means (134 or 154) being releasable to allow the resilient means (124 or 152) to move said latch (80 or 94) from its raised to its lowered position with a snap action .

A mounting plate as claimed in claim 3 , characterized in that said latch (80 or 94) is urged towards it raised position by means -of a spring (124 or 152) , the locking means comprising a shaft (134 or 154) which is slidable in a bore ( 136 or 156) in the mounting plate (12) and which carries a locking member ( 130 or 160) , the shaft (134 or 154) being movable between a first position in which the locking member (130 or 160) engages beneath said latch (80 or 94) in both its lowered and its raised positions and a second position in which the locking member (130 or 160) is clear of said latch (80 or 94) .

A mounting plate as claimed in claim 4, characterized in that the shaft ( 134) is urged towards its first position by means of a spring ( 142) , the locking member ( 130) having a projection (132) which lies within said notch (81 ) in the first position of the shaft ( 134) and which is retractable therefrom by moving the shaft (134) to its second position .

A mounting plate as claimed in claim 1 , characterized in that at least one (90) of the latches has a latching lip (95) which lies above said first major side (66) and in spaced relationship thereto when the latch (90) is in its raised position , said latch (90) having an arcuate surface ( 1 14) facing the base (107) of the notch (92) in which said latch (90) is accommodated, a pair of angularly spaced grooves (110 and 112) being formed in said arcuate surface (1 14) , a pivot pin ( 104) in the mounting plate ( 12) passing through a bore in said latch (90) which bore extends between the l ip (95) and said arcuate surface (1 14) , an abutment (108) in the base of said notch (92) being releasably engageable in one ( 11 0) of said grooves (1 10 and 112) , in the raised position of the latch (90 ) , and in the other groove ( 112) in the lowered position of the latch (90) .

A mounting plate as claimed in claim 1 , characterized by a first minor side (70) opposite to a second minor side (72) and a third minor side (74) opposite to a fourth minor side (76) , the first minor side (70) being adjacent to the third and fourth minor sides (74 and 76) , one of the first notches (81 , 84 and 92) being formed in each of the first, second and third minor sides (70 , 72 and 76) and the second notch (96) being disposed substantially centrally of said first major side (66} and opposite to the first notch (92) in the third minor side (76) , the first notch (84) in the first minor side (70) being positioned between the first notch (92) in the third minor side (76) and the second notch (96) , a gib (86) having a latching lip ( 120) projecting over said first major side (66 ) in spaced relationship thereto being fixed to the first minor side (70 ) proximate to the fourth minor side (74) .

A mounting plate as claimed in claim 7 , characterized in that each first latch (80 , 82 and 90) has a latching lip ( 95) which projects over said .first major side (66) in spaced relationship thereto in the raised position of the first latch (80 , 82 or 90) , the second latch (94) being urged towards its raised position by means of a spring ( 152) and locking means ( 156 , 160) being provided for releasably retaining the second latch (94) in both its raised and its lowered positions.
9. A mounting plate as claimed in claim 8, characterized in that the first latch (80) in the first notch (81 ) in the second minor side (72 ) is urged towards its raised position by means of a spring ( 124) , locking means ( 130 , 134) being provided for releasably retaining such first latch (80 ) in both its raised and its lowered positions.

A mounting plate adapted to be secured to the bed (14) of a press (2) , the mounting plate ( 1 2) comprising a first surface (66) to which the base plates ( 34 and 36 ) of respective end fed and side fed electrical terminal applicators ( 16 and 18 ) are selectively securable for operation by the press (2) ; and a second surface (68) opposite to said first surface (66) , for engagement with the press bed ; characterized by a first latch (80) on one side of said first surface (66) for engaging one edge of the base plate (36) of said end fed applicator (18) ; a second latch (82) on the opposite side of said first surface (66) for engaging the opposite edge of said end fed applicator base plate (36 ) ; a third latch (90) at one end of said first surface (66) for engaging one edge of a base plate (34) of said side fed applicator ( 16) ; and a fourth latch (94) disposed substantially centrally of said first surface (66) for engaging the opposite edge of the base plate (34) of said side fed applicator ( 16) ; each latch (80 , 82 , 90 and 94) being movable between a raised position for engaging the respective edge of the respective base plate (34 or 36) and a lowered position in which said first surface (66) is uninterrupted by said latch (80 , 82 , 90 or 94) .
