Claims

1. A flexible hose comprising a tube, a knit fabric, and a cover; said knit fabric comprising a hybrid yarn comprising a first yarn of co-para-aramid fibers and a second yarn of meta-aramid fibers.
  2. The hose of claim 1 wherein fibers at a surface of said hybrid yarn comprise both co-para-aramid fibers and meta-aramid fibers.
  3. The hose of claim 1 wherein said knit fabric resides embedded in said hose in between said tube and said cover.
  4. The hose of claim 1 wherein said first yarn and said second yarn are twisted together at up to 197 turns per metre (5 turns per inch).
  5. The hose of claim 1 wherein said co-para-aramid fibers comprise a copolymer of para-phenylene terephthalamide and 3,4-oxydiphenylene terephthalamide, and wherein said meta-aramid fibers comprise poly-meta-phenylene isophthalamide.
  6. The hose of claim 1 wherein said co-para-aramid yarn comprises co-poly (p-phenylene terephthalamide/3, 4'-oxydiphenylene terephthalamide) fiber, and said meta-aramid yarn comprises poly(m-phenylene isophthalamide) fiber.
  7. The hose of claim 1 wherein said first yarn and said second yarn are twisted together at 39 to 197 turns per metre (1 to 5 turns per inch).
  8. The hose of claim 1 wherein said knit fabric comprises from 164 to 656 loops per metre (50 to 200 loops per foot).
  9. The hose of claim 1 wherein said hybrid yarn comprises a base yarn having no additional adhesive treatment for bonding said fibers together or for bonding said cord to said body.
  10. The hose of claim 1 in the form of a radiator hose, coolant hose, heater hose, or charge air cooler hose.
  11. The hose of claim 1 wherein the hose is a low-pressure fluid transfer hose and said knit fabric is a knit fabric reinforcement acting as the primary reinforcement; said knit reinforcement being embedded between said cover and said tube, wherein the said first yarn is of co-poly(p-phenylene terephthalamide/3,4'-oxydiphenylene terephthalamide) fibers and the said second yarn of poly(m-phenylene isophthalamide) fibers; said first yarn and said second yarn are twisted together with from 39 to 197 turns per metre (1 to 5 turns per inch); and said knit reinforcement comprises from 164 to 656 loops per metre (50 to 200 loops per foot).
  12. The hose of claim 11 wherein said tube comprises EPDM or CPE and said cover comprises EPDM or CPE.
  13. A method comprising:

combining at least a first base yarn comprising co-para-aramid and a second base yarn comprising meta-aramid to form a hybrid yarn;

forming a tube;

knitting said hybrid yarn to form a reinforcing fabric layer on said tube; and

forming a cover about said tube and fabric layer.


  14. The method of claim 13 wherein said combining comprises twisting said base yarns together at a twist of up to 197 turns per metre (5 TPI).
  15. The method of claim 14 wherein said knitting comprises from 164 to 656 loops per metre (50 to 200 loops per foot).
  16. The method of claim 15 wherein said first base yarn comprises co-poly(p-phenylene terephthalamide/3,4' -oxydiphenylene terephthalamide) fiber and said second base yarn comprises poly(m-phenylene isophthalamide)fiber.
