The invention relates to a turbocharger system for internal combustion engines, wherein the internal combustion engine is provided with at least one combustion chamber which can change volume and one internal combustion engine displacement volume determined by the sum of the differential volumes between the lowest and highest volumes of the combustion chambers in an internal combustion engine, and wherein the turbocharger system (1) allocated to the internal combustion engine has at least one turbine (2) with a flow channel arranged in the exhaust path of the internal combustion engine, which exits onto a turbine wheel (4) via an annular nozzle-shaped area (9), wherein a locking device can be inserted into the mouth cross section of said area for braking operations, and via which device the flow section in the transition to the turbine wheel (4) can be determined as a fixed throttle, whereby the invention is characterized in that an additional discharge valve (19) is provided in the exhaust path leading to the turbine, which can be controlled in relation to the cross section of the opening, and further characterized in that during braking operations, when the internal combustion engine provides maximum braking power, the turbo-braking factor (TBF) is lower than 0.005 (5 DEG /oo), said TBF being defined according to the ratio TBF=ATxDT/VH, wherein AT represents the cross section of flow A released by the locking device and the discharge valve in the case of maximum braking power in the exhaust gas path, DT represents the entrance diameter DT of the turbine wheel and VH signifies the displacement VH of the internal combustion engine, whereby this ratio shows that the internal combustion engine and the turbo-compressor are harmonized in relation to each other and that its is possible to obtain a maximum braking power at low thermal load.
