Provided is a minor axis oscillating ultrasonic probe (U), which provides on a rotary holding table (1) a group of piezoelectric elements (2) arranged in a major axis direction and have an acoustic lens (6) on the ultrasonic wave transmitting/receiving surface, houses the rotary holding table (1) in an enclosed container (3) in the minor axis direction of the group of piezoelectric elements (2) so as to rotate and oscillate, scans mechanically in the minor axis direction ultrasonic waves transmitted/received to/from the ultrasonic wave transmitting/receiving surface of the group of piezoelectric elements (2), fill the enclosed container (3) with liquid (L) as an acoustic medium, and has a means of absorbing unnecessary ultrasonic waves propagating in a major axis direction between the ultrasonic wave transmitting/receiving surface and the inner peripheral surface of the enclosed container (3), wherein projections (6b) are respectively provided as the means of absorbing unnecessary ultrasonic waves on the opposite end sides of the acoustic lens (6) corresponding to the major axis direction. Accordingly, the minor axis oscillating ultrasonic probe can reduce working steps in the production of the probe, ensure the sealing of the enclosed container and the absorption of unnecessary ultrasonic waves, and reduce the weight of the probe to provide excellent operability at diagnosing.
