The invention relates to a drive train of a vehicle, comprising an internal combustion engine (VM), at least one electric motor (Pl, P2) that can be operated at least as a generator, a stepped automated manual transmission (G), and at least one control device (St) for controlling the internal combustion engine (VM), the at least one electric motor (Pl, P2), and the stepped automated manual transmission (G). The invention also relates to a corresponding method. The aim of the invention is to maximise the recovery energy of a vehicle without affecting the comfort thereof, and to increase the safety of the vehicle. To this end, a braking torque is maintained approximately constant on at least one driven wheel (R), before, during, and after a gear-shifting process to a gear with a higher gear ratio.
