Die vorliegende Erfindung betrifft ein Medikament zur Behandlung des Suchtverlangens, das dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass das Medikament aus einer Kombination von zwei Darreichungsformen besteht, wobei die eine Darreichungsform zumindest einen Modulator nikotinischer Rezeptoren kontinuierlich abgibt und die andere Darreichungsform ein schnelles Eintreten von Galanthamin in das Zentralnervensystem ermöglicht, sowie ein zweistufiges Verfahren zur Therapie des Substanzverlangens durch Modulation neuronaler nikotinischer Rezeptoren, bei dem eine permanente Behandlung mittels einer pharmazeutischen Darreichungsform, welche einen Modulator nikotinischer Rezeptoren kontinuierlich abgibt, bei Auftreten starken Substanzverlangens durch Verabreichung von Galanthamin oder einem seiner pharmakologisch akzeptablen Salze mittels einer Darreichungsform ergänzt wird, die ein schnelles Eintreten dieses Modulators in das Zentralnervensystem ermöglicht.
