A flush toilet which uses waste water instead of tap water when waste water is available. An auxiliary tank (2) holds water collected from wash basins (12), bath tubs, washing machines, or business or industrial machinery. A first float (6) inside the auxiliary tank (2) halts tap water flow when the auxiliary tank (2) is full, a second float (7) inside of the main tank (1) opens up a valve to receive the waste water when the main tank (1) is empty. The normal refilling float is also used. Other embodiments have the waste water flowing directly from the auxiliary tank (2) into the drain (5) for the flush, without being held in the main tank (1) in between, thus keeping the main tank (1) clean. The tap water supply pipe (4a) may be located within the auxiliary tank (2), the main tank (1), or in between the two, and the valves may be located and arranged in various ways. The tap water supply may have a second valve and outlet which feed directly to the drain (5), in order to aid flushes using waste water. In some embodiments, one float controls both the waste water supply valve and the second tap water valve and outlet, using in-line valves or a cam to differentially control the action of two valves. The first float (6) may have apparatus, such as a ring and chain, to prevent it from rising to shut off the tap water supply, and thus prevent the use of waste water for flushing. The auxiliary tank (2) may also have a sloped bottom and drain plug to allow easy cleaning, in the preferred embodiment, the mouth of the waste water supply pipe (3) which carries waste water to the main tank (1) or drain (5) is placed above the sloping bottom so as to avoid ingestion of foreign material from the wash basin, washing machine, etc. The mouth of the waste water supply pipe (3) is also equipped with a check valve to prevent a back flow from the main tank (1) into the auxiliary tank (2).

A continuous method of making chewing gum base is provided wherein two continuous mixers are arranged in series. A higher viscosity portion including elastomer, filler, and elastomer plasticizer is continuously added and mixed in the first continuous mixer to form a blend. The blend is ventilated after leaving the first continuous mixer. The blend from the first continuous mixer is continuously added to the second continuous mixer. A lower viscosity portion including softener/emulsifier and, optionally, wax and additional elastomer plasticizer, is also continuously fed to the second continuous mixer and mixed therein with the blend from the first continuous mixer to form chewing gum base.

A method of continuously making chewing gum base employs low pressure, adequate residence time, and the flexibility of selectively feeding different ingredients at different locations on the mixer. The method involves the use of a paddle mixer, characterized by a plurality of paddles mounted on a longitudinal rotating shaft, preferably mounted on two parallel co-rotating shafts. The paddles cover at least about 40 percent of the active length of the shafts. This configuration provides for significant residence time in the mixer and low pressure gum base manufacture.

The present invention relates generally to the field of human genetics. Specifically, the present invention relates to methods and materials used to isolate and detect a human breast and ovarian cancer predisposing gene (BRCA1), some mutant alleles of which cause susceptibility to cancer, in particular breast and ovarian cancer. More specifically, the invention relates to germline mutations in the BRCA1 gene and their use in the diagnosis of predisposition to breast and ovarian cancer. The present invention further relates to somatic mutations in the BRCA1 gene in human breast and ovarian cancer and their use in the diagnosis and prognosis of human breast and ovarian cancer. Additionally, the invention relates to somatic mutations in the BRCA1 gene in other human cancers and their use in the diagnosis and prognosis of human cancers. The invention also relates to the therapy of human cancers which have a mutation in the BRCA1 gene, including gene therapy, protein replacement therapy and protein mimetics. The invention further relates to the screening of drugs for cancer therapy. Finally, the invention relates to the screening of the BRCA1 gene for mutations, which are useful for diagnosing the predisposition to breast and ovarian cancer.
