The stacker arms are oriented parallel to the direction of movement of lumber conveyed to the stacking apparatus, and transverse to the longitudinal axis of the lumber, and are spaced so that each piece of lumber spans at least two arms to be supported thereby. The stacker arms each have a rearward end carried by a drive chain (38a-38e, 39a-39e) disposed around a pair of spaced sprockets (40, 41) and a forward end positioned to engage and lift a course of lumber as it is formed in the apparatus, for deposit of the course onto a stack. The stacker arms are each pivotally supported between their ends on a slide bearing (50, 51) which moves fore and aft with movement of the arms, and parallel to the direction of movement of the arms, so that as the rearward ends of the arms are carried around the sprockets by the drive chain, the arms are caused to pivot on the slide bearing, thereby causing the forward ends of the arms to be elevated and lowered as the arms reach their extended and retracted positions.

Die Erfindung beschreibt ein Verfahren zum Erkennen von Pausen innerhalb eines Meßsignals. Vorteilhaft wird bei der Erfindung ausgenutzt, daß die Musteranalyse des Meßsignals in mehreren Zeitscheiben durchgeführt wird und die einzelnen Auswerteresultate verschiedene Verarbeitungsstufen eines Erkennungssystems durchlaufen. Es werden spezielle Hidden-Markov-Modelle für Pausenzustände trainiert und mit Merkmalsvektoren verglichen, welche in einer ersten Stufe des Verfahrens aus dem Meßsignal abgeleitet werden. Falls die Wahrscheinlichkeit für das Vorhandensein der Pause größer ist, als die Wahrscheinlichkeit für das Vorhandensein anderer Muster, so wird der ersten Signalverarbeitungsstufe diese Information übermittelt und dort das Meßsignal als Signalpause klassifiziert. Das erfindungsgemäße Verfahren hat den Vorteil, daß damit auch eine Mustererkennung möglich ist, wenn Störungen des Meßsignals nur noch einen sehr geringen Signal-Rauschabstand zulassen. Eingesetzt werden kann das Verfahren zur Unterschrifterkennung, zur Spracherkennung und zur Erkennung von nachrichtentechnischen Signalisierungen.

Disclosed is an apparatus for measuring on-line the color and color-related properties of a moving sheet. Contrast ratio reflectance measurements are made for providing opacity corrections substantially in real time for a full color spectrum. An optical color sensor in accordance with the invention includes a pair of synchronized spectrometers, the first spectrometer being aligned to view a region of the sheet backed with a higly reflective ('white') material and the second spectrometer being aligned to view a region of the sheet backed with a highly absorptive ('black') material. The use of two spectrometers permits substantially simultaneous 'black' and 'white' measurements for a full color spectrum. The optical color sensing system further includes two light sources, a flashlamp and a continuously energized tungsten filament lamp. Light beams from the two sources are combined to form a sheet-illuminating third beam approximating the D65 standard source. The intensity of the flashlamp is electronically controlled to maintain the balance of UV to visible light that characterizes the standard source. The color sensor further includes a sheet backing system including a rotatable standard wheel carrying a white standard tile. Provision is made to permit rotation of the standard wheel and to standardize the sensor off-sheet while maintaining isolation of the white standard tile from the paper mill environment. The sheet backing system includes a paper guide plate defining an annular vortex space into which air is introduced from a pressurized source. A low pressure region thereby produced in the vortex space draws the paper sheet toward the guide plate. At the same time, circulating air spirals outwardly from the vortex space to form a thin air film or air bearing between the sheet and the paper guide. Sheet flutter is thereby minimized and damage to the sheet is prevented.

Um eine Beschädigung des Kabels und eine dadurch bewirkte unsichere Kontaktgabe beim Einknicken des Führungsbügels zu vermeiden, wird nach der Erfindung das Kabel durch eine drahtlose Verbindung, insbesondere durch Infrarotstrahlung, Funk oder Ultraschall, ersetzt. Zu diesem Zweck ist dem elektrischen Einschalter ein Sender zugeordnet und am Chassis dem Motorkreis ein Empfänger. Die erfindungsgemäße drahtlose Übertragung läßt sich in einfacher Weise mit dem für Gartengeräte vorgeschriebenen Totmannschalter kombinieren, der als Berührungsschalter oder als Tastschalter ausgebildet und am Führungsgriff so angeordnet sein kann, daß beim Loslassen des Führungsgriffs eine Abschaltung erfolgt.
