The package (16) comprises a hose-shaped envelope consisting of a flexible material sheet intended to receive a pasty filler product such as a sealing material or the like, sealingly closed at both its ends. The package comprises a rigid and narrowing end member (22) which is arranged at the compressed end of the envelope shaped as a bottle neck and intended to the outlet of the product and presenting at its narrowed end a centred opening, close to the outlet extremity of the envelope. The end member is a cup which is terminated at its enlarged extremity by a cylindrical collar (30) which is rigidly and sealingly fixed to a non compressed segment of the envelope and which is terminated at its narrowed end by a cylindrical threaded nipple (23). The nipple is radially spaced substantially from the bottle neck-shaped part of the envelope and axially from the corresponding extremity of the envelope, thus enabling the free access of a cutting tool at the opening of the envelope extremity.

An internal combustion engine as described with a zero degree angle formed by the cylinders in which the pistons actuate various cranks of a crankshaft, the bends of which are offset at an angle in relation to one another in such a way that there is a total matching of the second-order inertial forces. The angle of offset α between the two cranks is 270 degrees. In a further development of the invention, two such internal combustion engines can be arranged in series to form a four-cylinder internal combustion engine. The drawing of figure 1 shows the axes of the first and second cylinders denoted as (1) and (2), which lie in one and the same plane. The pistons (3 and 4) actuate via connecting rods (5 and 6) the cranks (7 and 8) of a crankshaft, the axis of which is denoted by 9. The angle between the bends of the cranks (7 and 8) is denoted by α and is 270 degrees. The arrow (10) shows the direction of rotation of the crankshaft. Figure 2 shows a diagram of the second-order forces of inertia (P) of the first and second cylinders for the corresponding crank positions φ and their counterbalancing.

An effectively rectangular vapor/liquid contact tray (16), having provisions to reduce the magnitude of vapor-pressure drop between successive contact chambers as well as to provide a positive and more effective vapor/liquid contact. A series of mutually spaced parallel baffles (25) are employed arranged transverse to and submerged in fluid flow, to take advantage of the advancing liquid's kinetic energy, and resulting recirculation zones (28) are produced associated with the baffles and upstream from the outlet weir (22) of the contact tray. Vapor admittance apertures (26) are provided in sets which may include decreasing numbers of apertures proximate the downstream surfaces of the baffles, through the contact tray, to assure positive vapor/liquid contact and to take advantage of low pressure conditions thereat.

The disclosure is directed to a vapor-and-liquid contact structure (10) for distillation, fractionation, rectification, absorption, and the refining, in a column, of various liquid materials such as petroleum, chemical, and alcohol solutions. Provision is made for the inclusion of vertically-spaced bubble plate chambers (15B), having respective liquid and vapor contact devices (16), to accommodate contact of countercurrent flows of reflux liquid and vapors. A downcomer means (27), including slanted ramps (30, 31), is disposed outside of the vapor conduit-defining interior (15A), and defines an elongate downcomer structure (27) for liquid flow. Accordingly, descending reflux liquid flow is kept outside of primary vapor flow, with secondary vapor evolving from descending reflux being conducted circuitously back into the primary vapor flow for ascent to the next-above contact device (16). Plate efficiency is enhanced through maximum plate-area effective use and unidirectional liquid-flow over such plates (16). Column sections (11) are constructed in essentially identical modules which can be stacked and secured together to reduce fabrication and engineering costs.

A system of substantially closed processing stations designed to disperse chemicals for uniformly coating or otherwise contacting an emulsion-coated or other surface or strip is disclosed. The system comprises one or more slotted stations through which developing chemicals are transmitted into shallow sinks. The chemicals uniformly contact the strip as it travels over the sinks and subsequently are removed from the strip along with by-products of the reaction by wipers or ribs and disposed through disposal slots in the stations. The ribs also agitate the chemicals and emulsion to assist uniform developing of the strip. Because the processing station is virtually sealed from the surrounding atmosphere, little degradation of the processing chemicals occurs even after extended periods of nonuse.

The invention provides phototranschromic compositions comprising a photoreactive compound and a color indicator which undergo distinct color changes upon being exposed to actinic radiation. The invention also provides ultraviolet radiation dosimeters comprising such compositions and a method for detecting predetermined levels of exposure to ultraviolet. The dosimeters of the invention may contain a plurality of the phototranschromic compositions, wherein each of the compositions undergoes a distinctive color change upon exposure to a certain predetermined level of ultraviolet radiation. Each color change may be calibrated to a given ultraviolet radiation dosage level which a particular skin type may be safely exposed to.
