CLAIMS

1 . A method of assembling a window panel (24, 26, 28) to a side wall structure (30) of a rail vehicle body (12, 14), comprising:

prepositioning the window panel (24, 26, 28) into a window opening (38, 40, 42) of the side wall structure (30);

inserting a location pin into a location hole (82) of the window panel (24, 26, 28) and a location hole (44, 46, 48) of the side wall structure (30) so that the location hole (82) of the window panel (24, 26, 28) is aligned with a reference axis of the location hole (44, 46, 48) of the side wall structure (30);

inserting an anti-rotation pin into an anti-rotation slot (84) of the window panel (24, 26, 28) and an anti-rotation hole (50, 52, 54) of the side wall structure (30) so as to prevent a rotation of the window panel (24, 26, 28) relative to the side wall structure (30) about the reference axis of the location hole (44, 46, 48) of the side wall structure (30); fixing the window panel (24, 26, 28) to the side wall structure (30); and removing the location pin and anti-rotation pin.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein the location pin, the location hole (82) of the window panel (24, 26, 28) and the location hole (44, 46, 48) of the side wall structure (30) are circular in cross-section and have such dimensions as to allow only one degree of freedom of rotation of the window panel (24, 26, 28) about the reference axis of the location hole (44, 46, 48) of the side wall structure (30) and one degree of freedom of translation of the window panel (24, 26, 28) parallel to the reference axis of the location hole (44, 46, 48) of the side wall structure (30).

3. The method of any one of the preceding claims, wherein the anti-rotation slot (84) extends in a radial direction relative to a reference axis of the location hole (82) of the window panel (24, 26, 28).

The method of any one of the preceding claims, wherein the method is carried out on the side wall structure (30) in an upright position.

The method of claim 4, wherein the location hole (44, 46, 48) of the side wall structure (30) is underneath a lower edge of the window opening (38, 40, 42) and the anti-rotation hole (50, 52, 54) of the side wall structure is above an upper edge of the window opening (38, 40, 42).

The method of any one of the preceding claims, wherein prepositioning the window panel (24, 26, 28) includes:

positioning a lower edge profile (78) of the window panel (24, 26, 28) into a channel (80) of the side wall structure; and

pivoting the window panel (24, 26, 28) about a pivot axis defined by the channel (80) of the side wall structure (30) until an upper edge of the window panel (24, 26, 28) contacts the side wall structure (30).

The method of any one of the preceding claims, wherein fixing the window panel (24, 26, 28) to the side wall structure (30) includes screwing, bolting, riveting or gluing the window panel (24, 26, 28) to the side wall structure (30).

The method of any one of the preceding claims, further comprising:

prepositioning a window glass panel (56) into the window opening (38, 40, 42) of the side wall structure (30), the window glass panel (56) comprising a frame (58) and one or more glass panes (60) fitted in the frame (58);

inserting a location pin (64) into a location hole of a jig (62) and the location hole (44, 46, 48) of the side wall structure (30) so that the location hole of the jig (62) and the location hole (44, 46, 48) of the side wall structure (30) are aligned;

inserting an anti-rotation pin (66) into an anti-rotation hole of the jig (62) and the anti-rotation hole (50, 52, 54) of the side wall structure (30) so as to prevent rotation of the jig (62) relative to the side wall structure (30) about a reference axis of the location pin;

inserting a further location pin (68) into a further location hole of the jig (62) and into a location hole of the frame (58) of the window glass panel (56);

inserting a further anti-rotation pin (70) into a further anti-rotation hole of the jig (62) and into a anti-rotation slot of the frame (58) of the window glass panel (56); and

fixing the window glass panel (56) to the side wall structure (30); and removing the further anti-rotation pin (70), the further location pin (68), the anti-rotation pin (64) and location pin (62).

A method of assembling window panels (24, 26, 28) to a side wall structure (30) of a rail vehicle body (12, 14), characterised in that the method comprises the following steps:

assembling a first window panel (26) into a first window opening (40) of the side wall structure (30) according to the method of any one of claims 1 to 8, and

assembling at least a second window panel (24) into a second window opening (38) of the side wall structure (30) according to the method of any one of claims 1 to 8, wherein the second window opening (38) is adjacent to the first window opening (40) and a side edge of the second window panel (24) overlaps an adjacent side edge of the first window panel (26).

The method of claim 9, further comprising assembling at least a third window panel (28) into a third window opening (42) of the side wall structure (30) according to the method of any one of claims 1 to 8, wherein the third window opening (42) is adjacent to the first window opening (40), the first window opening (40) is between the second and third window openings (38, 42) and a side edge of the third window panel (28) overlaps an adjacent side edge of the first window panel (26).

A method of assembling a side wall of a rail vehicle body, characterised in that it comprises assembling a window panel (24, 26, 28) to a side wall structure (30) of a rail vehicle body (12, 14) according to any one of claims 1 to 8 or assembling window panels (24, 26, 28) to a side wall structure (30) of a rail vehicle body (12, 14) according to claims 9 or 10, wherein the side wall structure (30) comprises at least a first structural part (32) comprising the location hole (46) of the side wall structure (30), and a further structural part (34) comprising the anti-rotation hole (52) of the side wall structure (30), the method comprising a preliminary step of assembling the side wall structure (30), comprising using a welding jig inserted in the location hole (46) and the anti-rotation hole (52) of the side wall structure (30) to position the further structural part (34) with respect to the first structural part (32).

12. A method of assembling a vehicle, characterised in that it comprises:

assembling a window panel (24, 26, 28) to a side wall structure (30) of a rail vehicle body (12, 14) according to any one of claims 1 to 8 or assembling window panels (24, 26, 28) to a side wall structure (30) of a rail vehicle body (12, 14) according to claims 9 or 10 or assembling a side wall of a rail vehicle body (12, 14) according to claim 11; and subsequently assembling the side wall structure (30) to a floor structure and a roof structure of the rail vehicle body.
