A dirt separator (10) for a vacuum cleaner (1) comprising a chamber (36) having an inlet (37) through which dirt-laden fluid enters and an outlet (38) through which cleansed fluid exits the chamber (36). A disc (40) located at the outlet (38) rotates about a rotational axis (48) and comprises holes (47) through which the cleansed fluid passes. The chamber (36) is delimited by a bottom wall (32) and a side wall. The bottom wall (32) is moveable relative to the side wall (31) between an open position and a closed position, and the inlet (37) is defined by an end of an inlet duct (21) attached to the side wall (31).
