CLAIMS

1 . A method performed by a transmitting station (200) for enabling power saving in one or more receiving stations when the transmitting station (200) transmits a radio signal to a targeted station (202), the method comprising:

- estimating (302) a power limitation status of the targeted station (202),

- setting (304) at least one power limitation bit that indicates the estimated power limitation status of the targeted station (202), and

- transmitting (306) the radio signal with a preamble including the at least one power limitation bit, thereby enabling any receiving station (204) that receives said preamble to determine whether to receive and decode the complete radio signal or not based on the at least one power limitation bit.

2. A method according to claim 1 , wherein the at least one power limitation bit is set to a first value when the estimated power limitation status of the targeted station (202) is power limited and to a second value when the estimated power limitation status of the targeted station (202) is non-power limited.

3. A method according to claim 2, wherein the at least one power limitation bit is set to the first value when the estimated power limitation status of the targeted station (202) is unknown.

4. A method according to any of claims 1 -3, wherein the power limitation status of the targeted station (202) is estimated to be non-power limited when identified as being any of: an Access Point, a base station and a relay station.

5. A method according to any of claims 1 -3, wherein the power limitation status of the targeted station (202) is estimated to be power limited when identified as being any of: a non-Access Point, an Energy Limited station and a sensor station.

6. A method according to any of claims 1 -5, wherein the power limitation status of the targeted station (202) is received in a beacon transmitted from the targeted station (202) or in signalling from the targeted station (202) during an association or handshake phase.

7. A method according to any of claims 1 -6, wherein the radio signal comprises one or more data packets.

8. A method according to any of claims 1 -7, wherein the at least one power limitation bit (214) is located in a SIG field (212) of the preamble (21 0).

9. A transmitting station (200, 700) arranged to enable power saving in one or more receiving stations (204, 702) when the transmitting station (200, 700) transmits a radio signal to a targeted station (202), the transmitting station (200, 700) comprising a processor (P) and a memory (M), said memory comprising instructions executable by said processor whereby the transmitting station (200, 700) is configured to:

- estimate (700a) a power limitation status of the targeted station (202),

- set (700b) at least one power limitation bit that indicates the estimated power limitation status of the targeted station (202), and

- transmit (700c) the radio signal with a preamble including the at least one power limitation bit, thereby enabling any receiving station (204, 702) that receives said preamble to determine whether to receive and decode the complete radio signal or not based on the at least one power limitation bit.

10. A transmitting station (200, 700) according to claim 9, wherein the transmitting station (200, 700) is configured to set the at least one power limitation bit to a first value when the estimated power limitation status of the targeted station (202) is power limited and to a second value when the estimated power limitation status of the targeted station (202) is non-power limited.

1 1 . A transmitting station (200, 700) according to claim 10, wherein the transmitting station (200, 700) is configured to set the at least one power limitation bit to the first value when the estimated power limitation status of the targeted station (202) is unknown.

A transmitting station (200, 700) according to any of claims 9-1 1 , wherein the transmitting station (200, 700) is configured to estimate the power limitation status of the targeted station (202) to be non-power limited when identified as being any of: an Access Point, a base station and a relay station.

13. A transmitting station (200, 700) according to claim 12, wherein the transmitting station (200, 700) is configured to receive the power limitation status of the targeted station (202) in a beacon transmitted from the targeted station (202) or in signalling from the targeted station (202) during an association or handshake phase.

14. A transmitting station (200, 700) according to any of claims 9-13, wherein the transmitting station (200, 700) is configured to estimate the power limitation status of the targeted station (202) to be power limited when identified as being any of: a non-Access Point, an Energy Limited station and a sensor station.

15. A transmitting station (200, 700) according to any of claims 9-14, wherein the radio signal comprises one or more data packets.

16. A transmitting station (200, 700) according to any of claims 9-15, wherein the at least one power limitation bit (214) is located in a SIG field (212) of the preamble (210).

17. A method performed by a receiving station (204) when a transmitting station (200) transmits a radio signal to a targeted station (202), the method comprising:

- receiving (400) a preamble of the radio signal, the preamble including at least one power limitation bit that indicates a power limitation status of the targeted station (202), and

- determining (402) whether to receive and decode the complete radio signal or not based on the at least one power limitation bit.

18. A method according to claim 1 7, wherein the receiving station (204) receives and decodes the complete radio signal when detecting that the at least one power limitation bit has a first value indicating that the power limitation status of the targeted station (202) is power limited.

19. A method according to claim 17, wherein the receiving station (204) discards the radio signal when detecting that the at least one power limitation bit has a second value indicating that the power limitation status of the targeted station (202) is non-power limited.

20. A method according to claim 1 9, wherein the receiving station (204) saves power by entering sleep mode after detecting the at least one power limitation bit in the preamble of the radio signal.

21 . A receiving station (204, 702) comprising a processor (P) and a memory (M), said memory comprising instructions executable by said processor whereby the receiving station (204, 702) is operative to:

- receive (702a) a preamble of a radio signal transmitted by a transmitting station (200, 700) to a targeted station (202), the preamble including at least one power limitation bit that indicates a power limitation status of the targeted station (202), and

- determine (702b) whether to receive and decode the complete radio signal or not based on the at least one power limitation bit.

22. A receiving station (204, 702) according to claim 21 , wherein the receiving station (204, 702) is configured to receive and decode the complete radio signal when detecting that the at least one power limitation bit has a first value indicating that the power limitation status of the targeted station (202) is power limited.

23. A receiving station (204, 702) according to claim 21 or 22, wherein the receiving station (204, 702) is configured to discard the radio signal when detecting that the at least one power limitation bit has a second value indicating that the power limitation status of the targeted station (202) is non-power limited.

24. A receiving station (204, 702) according to claim 23, wherein the receiving station (204, 702) is configured to save power by entering sleep mode after detecting the at least one power limitation bit in the preamble of the radio signal.

25. A computer program comprising instructions which, when executed on at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to carry out the method according to any of claims 1 -8 or the method according to any of claims 1 7-20.

26. A carrier containing the computer program of claim 25, wherein the carrier is one of an electronic signal, optical signal, radio signal, or computer readable storage medium.
