The present invention relates generally to the regulation of immune responses of subjects for the diagnosis and treatment of infertility. More particularly, methods that downregulate T helper 1 (Th1) immunity or upregulate T helper 2 (Th2) immunity are used to enhance reproductive outcomes in subjects with recurrent spontaneous abortions or implantation failures by changing the balance of T helper 1 and T helper 2 immune responses. Ratios of Th1 and Th2 activities can also be used for diagnosis of infertility in these subjects.

Exercise-induced T-wave alternans (TWA) in coronary artery disease patients reflects significant levels of spatial heterogeneity of repolarization, which may underlie the predictive utility of TWA in estimating risk of sudden cardiac death. A method for assessing spatial heterogeneity of repolarization of a heart of a patient includes the following steps: simultaneously sensing an ECG signal from each of a plurality of spatially separated leads attached to the patient; for a plurality of N beats in each of the ECG signals, identifying a JT interval of each beat; and for corresponding ones of the JT intervals of the ECG signals, calculating a second central moment indicative of spatial heterogeneity of repolarization.

The invention relates to a method for determining the rotational angles of the polarisation axes of an optical waveguide or fiber and by means of them for determining the true PXR values. The rotational angle α of a polarisation axis is determined in relation to the reference angle of the measuring device. For example, when using a linear polariser as the measuring device, either the polariser’s blocking or transmission direction can be chosen as the reference angle. An optical waveguide or fiber (17) can be connected to a polariser (11) and the transmitted optical power can be further introduced into a detector (14). Alternatively, the optical waveguide or fiber (17) can be connected to a polarisation splitter (12) and the splitted optical powers can be further introduced into detectors (14). The angle between the measuring device and the waveguide or fiber is adjusted accurately and the phase difference of the waveguide inaccurately, so that an information system (SERV) can form, based on the detector signals, at least two curves, and the rotational angle α can be determined based on their intersection point.

There is provided a process for the preparation of oxiranes wherein an optionally substituted alkene is reacted in the presence of a chiral catalyst, an oxidant and an organic solvent characterised in that the oxidant is at least partially soluble in the organic solvent and the oxidant displays low reactivity towards the alkene in the absence of the catalyst. The optionally substituted alkene is preferably an alkene of formula (1): wherein: R1-4 each independently are hydrogen, an optionally substituted aromatic or is saturated hydrocarbyl, an optionally substituted hetrocyclyl, an optionally substituted aromatic or saturated hydrocarbyloxy, an optionally substituted aromatic or saturated hydrocarbylamino, an optionally substituted aromatic or saturated hydrocarbyloxycarbonyl, an optionally substituted aromatic or saturated hydrocarbylaminocarbonyl, nitrile, halide or one or more of R1 & R2, R2 & R3 , R3 & R4 , R1 & R4 optionally being linked in such a way as to form an optionally substituted ring(s). The oxidant is preferably an oxidant of formula (2): A+ HSO5- wherein A+ is a counterion capable of conferring organic solvent solubility. Preferred chiral catalysts of formula (4): wherein: R11 and R12 are each independently an optionally substituted hydrocarbyl group or R11 & R12 are linked in such a way as to form an optionally substituted ring(s); R13 is hydrogen or an optionally substituted hydrocarbyl group; R14 is an optionally substituted hydrocarbyl group; R17 is hydrogen or an optionally substituted hydrocarbyl group; R15 and R16 each independently are hydrogen or an optionally substituted hydrocarbyl group; and 30 X- is a counterion; * is a chiral centre; and *' is a chiral centre when R17 is not hydrogen are provided.

Hopscotch ticketing enforces restrictions on use of digital content without materially affecting an end-user's (116) ability to exploit the content. A content owner (110) encrypts digital content and distributes the encrypted content to distributors (114). The end-user (116) obtains the content from a distributor (114). The distributor (114) provides a service center (112) with a distributor identification (ID), an end-user ID, and a content ID. The service center (112) generates a key for the identified end-user (116) and provides the key and Ids to the content owner (110). The content owner (110) determines the key for the content, encrypts the key with multiple levels of encryption, and provides the content key to the service center. The service center (112) provides the content key (300) to the distributor (114), which removes one level of encryption and provides the content key to the end-user (116). The end-user (116) removes the remaining levels of encryption and uses the content key to access the content.

Improved vulcanized elastomeric compounds comprising silica reinforcing filler and a disulfane organosilane silica coupling agent are obtained by mixing the polymer, silica, and the disulfane coupling agent in the initial (master batch) stage or a subsequent remill stage at a high temperature of 165 °C to about 195 °C. The compounds demonstrate improved silica dispersion and reduced silica flocculation after compounding, longer scorch times, faster curing rates, and a decrease in evolution of ethanol during storage, extrusion, curing and tire build. The vulcanized products demonstrate improved viscoelastic properties that are commonly used to predict tire performance in the categories of snow and ice traction, wet traction, rolling resistance, and hysteresis.

The device (10) for creating a curtain of air across the face is a headset (14) with a fan mounted thereon. The outlet (20) of the fan (16) has flexible tubing or cowling which allows for control of both direction and cross section of a curtain of air that crosses the face. The curtain of air prevents airborne particles and chemicals from making contact with the face.
