PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a finger motion detecting apparatus and method, capable of being utilized as a novel interface method in the field of wearable computers, which can help an user to use a computer without inconvenience in his or her everyday life with both hands free by a natura method without holding an apparatus, by making the user wear a sensor capable of detecting finger motion on his or her wrist to resolve the inconvenience for wearing and use in existing methods.

SOLUTION: The finger-motion detecting apparatus includes: a sensor unit which is disposed on a wrist of a subject person and is configured to output a measurement signal into the wrist of the subject person and to receive a reflected signal of the measurement signal, which is reflected according to the motion of tendons in the wrist of the subject person; a signal control unit configured to control whether the measurement signal is output and to adjust the measurement signal on the basis of the reflected signal; and a finger-motion recognizing unit configured to detect finger motion of the subject person from the reflected signal.

【課題】指の動きを検出することができるセンサを手首部位に備えて既存の方法が有する着用および使用の不便さを改善することにより、ユーザが装置を把持せずに両手が自由な状態で日常生活を営みながら不便なく自然な方法でコンピュータを使用しようとするウェアラブルコンピュータ分野に新たなインターフェース方法として活用できる指の動き検出装置およびその方法を提供する。
【解決手段】被検者の手首に配置されて前記被検者の手首内部に測定信号を出力し、測定信号が被検者の手首内部で筋の動きによって反射した反射信号を受信するセンサ部、測定信号の出力を制御し、反射信号に基づいて測定信号を調節する信号制御部、および反射信号から被検者に対する指の動きを検出する指の動き認識部を備える。
