The two surfaces (4b, 5a) each have a single axis pivot (P1, P2) with mutually different orientations of an axis serving as a tilting center. Through this, a tilting pad journal bearing that easily suppresses unevenness in a bearing oil film in the axial direction and prevents the occurrence of thermal bending vibration while suppressing forces that destabilize whirling vibration of the rotor, and a rotary machine comprising the tilting pad journal bearing are provided.
