A portable display device, such as a contactless IC card, comprising, for example, cholesteric liquid crystal with a memory capability and having an improved mechanical durability. The display device has two opposed substrates (1) and display portion (liquid crystal) (2) interposed between the substrates (1). The display device further has a wall member (3) which is a wall structure holding the substrates at portions other than the display portion (2). The walls are perpendicular to the substrates (1), and the surfaces perpendicular to the walls are adhered to the substrates (1). The area of the surfaces adhered to the substrates (1) is larger than that of the surfaces of the display portion (2) opposing the substrates (1).

L'invention concerne un dispositif d'affichage portable, tel qu'une carte à circuit intégré, comprenant, par exemple, un cristal liquide cholestérique à capacité de mémoire et présentant une durabilité mécanique améliorée. Le dispositif d'affichage comprend deux substrats opposés (1) et une partie d'affichage (cristaux liquides) (2) interposés entre les substrats (1). Le dispositif d'affichage comprend, de plus, un élément de paroi (3) qui est une structure latérale maintenant les substrats sur des parties autres que la partie d'affichage (2). Les parois sont perpendiculaires aux substrats (1) et les surfaces perpendiculaires aux parois sont fixées aux substrats (1). La partie des surfaces fixée aux substrats (1) est supérieure à celle des surfaces de la partie d'affichage (2) opposées aux substrats (1).
