Disclosed is a resin composition for a retardation thin film, which can form a retardation thin film having high transparency and high birefringency by applying the composition onto a substrate without the need of an alignment or stretching process. The composition comprises a polyimide precursor produced by reacting at least one tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride with at least one diamine and an organic solvent, wherein at least either one of the at least one tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride and the at least one diamine is an alicyclic compound. The composition can be used in a liquid crystal display device for forming a retardation thin film having an optically negative uniaxial anisotropy, an optical axis approximately perpendicular to a the surface of the thin film and a birefringence (n) in the thicknesswise direction of 0.01 to 0.3. ©KIPO&WIPO 2009

본 발명은 배향 및 연신 공정이 불필요하고, 기판 상에 도포함으로써 고투명성, 고복굴절성의 위상차 박막을 형성할 수 있는 위상차 박막용 수지 조성물이 개시되어 있다. 이 조성물은 1종 이상의 테트라카르복실산 이무수물과 1종 이상의 디아민을 반응시켜 얻어지는 폴리이미드 전구체 및 유기 용제를 포함하고, 상기 1종 이상의 테트라카르복실산 이무수물 및 상기 1종 이상의 디아민 중 어느 하나 이상이 지환식 화합물이다. 이 조성물은 액정 표시 장치에 이용되며, 광학적으로 부의 일축 이방성을 가지고, 광축이 박막면에 대하여 대략 수직이며, 두께 방향의 복굴절 Δn이 0.01 내지 0.3인 위상차 박막을 형성하기 위해서 이용된다.
