PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rubber composition for a tread, which has good processability and can improve wet grip performance, low fuel consumption and wear resistance in a good balance, and to provide a pneumatic tire using the composition.
SOLUTION: The rubber composition for a tread comprises: an emulsion-polymerized rubber having an acetone extract of 2.5 mass% or less determined by an acetone extraction method and having a peak-top molecular weight (Mp) of 250000 or more and a ratio of a weight average molecular weight to a number average molecular weight (Mw/Mn) of 3 or more; carbon black; and silica. Otherwise, the rubber composition for a tread comprises: an emulsion-polymerized rubber having a soap content and an organic acid content, each of 2.5 mass% or less, and having Mp of 250000 or more and Mw/Mn of 3 or more; carbon black; and silica.
