PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten a standby time required from the selection of video content by a user to the actual playback of the video content, compared to a conventional system, in playing back the video content requested to distribute from a content playback terminal.

SOLUTION: The system in which the content distribution apparatus distributes video content by on-demand method to the content playback terminals via a network has a structure in which, prior to playback of video content from a distribution menu by a user, the content playback terminal receives video content added with cache control information from the content distribution apparatus, writes the video content into an internal temporary memory device, plays back the video content when the video content selected by the user is stored in the temporary memory device, and requests distribution of the selected video content to the content distribution apparatus when the selected video content is not stored in the temporary memory device.

【課題】コンテンツ再生端末から、配信要求される映像コンテンツの再生に際し、ユーザが映像コンテンツを配信メニューにおいて選択してから、実際にその映像コンテンツが再生されるまでの待ち時間を従来に比較して短縮する。
【解決手段】ネットワークを介してコンテンツ配信装置からコンテンツ再生端末に映像コンテンツをオンデマンド配信するシステムであり、ユーザが配信メニューから映像コンテンツを再生する前に、キャッシュ制御情報が付加された映像コンテンツを、コンテンツ再生端末が予めコンテンツ配信装置から配信を受け、内部の一時記憶装置に書き込み、ユーザが選択した映像コンテンツが一時記憶装置にある場合、この映像コンテンツを再生し、一方、選択された映像コンテンツが一時記憶装置にない場合、映像コンテンツをコンテンツ配信装置に、選択された映像コンテンツの配信要求を行う。
