La présente invention a pour but d'améliorer la qualité d'une image à grande plage dynamique par réduction du défaut d'alignement de la formation d'image provoqué par la division pupillaire et par amélioration de la fausse résolution. Selon cette invention, un appareil d'imagerie, constitué d'un élément d'imagerie (16) comportant un premier groupe de pixels et un deuxième groupe de pixels pour la conversion photoélectrique de flux lumineux ayant traversé différentes régions d'une lentille d'imagerie unique (12), comprend également : une unité de commande d'imagerie (68) qui, lors de la capture d'une image en mode SN (un premier mode d'imagerie à surface plate), expose le premier et le deuxième groupe de pixels du dispositif d'imagerie (16) sur la même période d'exposition et effectue une addition de pixels et, lors de la capture d'une image en mode DR (un second mode d'imagerie à surface plate), expose le premier et le deuxième groupe de pixels du dispositif d'imagerie (16) sur différentes périodes d'exposition et effectue une addition de pixels; un diaphragme (14) disposé dans le chemin optique traversé par les faisceaux lumineux pénétrant dans le dispositif d'imagerie (16); et une unité de commande de diaphragme (70) permettant d'augmenter la valeur du diaphragme (14) lors de la capture d'une image en mode DR plutôt qu'en mode SN.
