Claims

1. A gastrointestinal tract examining apparatus (5, 5C, 5D, 5G-K) comprising:

a capsular endoscope (3, 3C, 3D, 3G-K) adapted to examine the gastrointestinal tract comprising an illuminating portion (25) and an image pick-up element (24);

a flexible tube member (4) which is longer than the gastrointestinal tract from a mouth to a stomach of a patient;

one flexible string member or a plurality of flexible string members (6, 6a, 6b) which are adapted to be inserted into the tube member (4) and

a connecting portion which is arranged to the capsular endoscope (3, 3C, 3D, 3G-K),

wherein the tube member (4) is adapted to be separatively connected to the capsular endoscope (3, 3C, 3D, 3G-K) by detachably connecting the string member (6, 6a, 6b) to the connecting portion

characterized in that

each of the string members has at least twice the length of the tube member (4); and

the capsular endoscope (3, 3C, 3D, 3G-K) further comprises a radio transmitting portion (27) adapted for transmitting by radio an image signal picked up by the image pick-up element (24) to an extracorporeal unit and

the connecting portion comprises a through-hole or a plurality of through-holes (29, 29a, 29b, 77a, 77b) which are provided to the capsular endoscope (3, 3C, 3D, 3G-K) and are arranged at apart positions, and the capsular endoscope (3, 3C, 3D, 3G-K) is detachably connected to the tube member by the one or more of the string members (6, 6a, 6b) wherein each string member is adapted to be inserted and folded through one of the through-holes (29, 29a, 29b, 77a, 77b) so that in each through-hole is inserted one string member,

and in that the examining apparatus is adapted to change a direction of field of view of the image pick-up element (24) by towing and loosening the one or more string members (6, 6a, 6b) pulled out from a proximal end of the tube member (4).


  2. The gastrointestinal tract examining apparatus according to Claim 1, wherein the outer diameter of the tube member (4) is the half or less of the outer diameter of the capsular endoscope (3, 3C, 3D, 3G-K).
  3. The gastrointestinal tract examining apparatus according to Claim 2, wherein the outer diameter of the tube member (4) is 5 mm or less.
  4. The gastrointestinal tract examining apparatus according to Claim 2, wherein the tube member (4) has flexibility that it is not easily bent by tractive force of the string members (6, 6a, 6b) inserted in the tube member (4).
  5. The gastrointestinal tract examining apparatus according to Claim 1, further comprising holding means (41) adapted to detachably hold the end portion of the string members (6, 6a, 6b) near the proximal end of the tube member (4).
  6. The gastrointestinal tract examining apparatus according to Claim 1, wherein a sharp portion (46b) is provided with a peripheral portion of the one or more through-holes (29), the sharp portion (46b) being adapted to cut the string members (6) when the string members (6) is pulled with force of a certain level or more.
  7. The gastrointestinal tract examining apparatus according to Claim 1, wherein the peripheral portion of the one or more through-holes (29) have a thin portion (65a) adapted to break or fall down from the peripheral portion of the through-hole (29) when the string members (6) is towed with force of a certain level or more.
  8. The gastrointestinal tract examining apparatus according to Claim 1, wherein the outer surface of the distal end portion of the tube member (4) has an R-shaped chamfering portion (4a) to the outer surface of the distal end portion of the tube member (4).
  9. The gastrointestinal tract examining apparatus according to Claim 1, wherein the tube member (4) has, at the distal end portion thereof, a semi-spherical distal end member (71) independent of the tube member (4).
  10. The gastrointestinal tract examining apparatus according to Claim 1, wherein the tube member (4) has the distal end which is softer than the proximal end of the tube member (4).
  11. The gastrointestinal tract examining apparatus according to Claim 10, wherein a portion with a predetermined length on the distal end of the tube member (4) is softer than other portion of the tube member (4).
  12. The gastrointestinal tract examining apparatus according to Claim 10, wherein the tube member (4) has the hardness which is continuously changed.
  13. The gastrointestinal tract examining apparatus according to Claim 1, wherein the tube member (4) has a fluid injecting portion for injecting the liquid or air near the proximal end of the tube member (4).
  14. The gastrointestinal tract examining apparatus according to Claim 1, wherein the plurality of string members (6a, 6b) are adapted to be individually towed or loosened, thereby oscillating the capsular endoscope (3, 3C, 3D, 3G-K).
  15. The gastrointestinal tract examining apparatus according to Claim 1, wherein the tube member (4) is a multi-lumen tube (52a, 52b) and has the same number of lumens (52a, 52b) as the number of used string members or more.
  16. The gastrointestinal tract examining apparatus according to Claim 1, wherein the tube member (4) is a multi-lumen tube and has twice as many lumens (52a', 52b'), as the number of used string members or more.
  17. The gastrointestinal tract examining apparatus according to Claim 1, wherein the tube member (4) is a torque tube (47) with the high torque transmission-property, which is formed by embedding a metallic net or metallic spiral member into resin, a tube (50) containing fluorocarbon resin with smoothness and hardness, such as Teflon or PTFE, or a thick resin tube (51).
  18. The gastrointestinal tract examining apparatus according to Claim 1, wherein each of the string members (6, 6a, 6b) has a thread with a strength although it has a thin diameter and high smoothness such as fluorocarbon resin, nylon string, thread for operation, and gut.
  19. The gastrointestinal tract examining apparatus according to Claim 6, wherein each of the string members (6, 6a, 6b) is a thread which is soft and is adapted to be easily cut such as a cotton thread, silk thread, polyester yarn, and wool thread.
