Sulphur, metallic iodine and a copper sulphate solution (CuSO4) are used as raw materials, which copper sulphate solution can be obtained, for example, from copper oxide minerals such as, inter alia, malachite (CuCO3∙Cu(OH)2), azurite (2CuCO3∙Cu(OH)2), cuprite (Cu2O), or mixed minerals containing copper sulphide, for example, inter alia, chalcopyrite (CuFeS2), chalcocite (Cu2S), covelite (CuS), bornite (2Cu2S∙CuS∙FeS) and tetrahedrite (Cu3SbS3 + x(Fe,Zn)6Sb2S9). The method for simultaneously producing copper oxide and sulphuric acid comprises the following steps: (a) providing an aqueous copper sulphate solution with a known concentration of copper in an appropriate container; (b) adding metallic iodine (I2) and injecting sulphur dioxide (SO2) in the form of gas into the container containing the aqueous copper sulphate solution from step (a), in order to create sulphuric acid (H2SO4) and copper iodide (Cul); and (c) drying the copper iodide, evaporating the iodine, and forming copper oxide.
