A branched aromatic ionomer is prepared by co-polymerizing a first monomer having an aromatic moiety and an unsaturated alkyl moiety and a second monomer having an ionic moiety and at least one unsaturated moiety. The ionic moiety may have a cationic group having a valence of +1 or greater. Styrene is among the useful first monomers and sodium methacrylate and zinc dimethacrylate are among the useful second monomers. The branched aromatic ionomers may be used to prepare articles including foamed polystyrene and microwave save dishes and utensils.

Разветвлённый ароматический иономер получают путём сополимеризации первого мономера, имеющего ароматический фрагмент и ненасыщенный алкильный фрагмент, и второго мономера, имеющего ионный фрагмент и по меньшей мере один ненасыщенный фрагмент. Ионный фрагмент может иметь катионную группу с валентностью +1 или больше. К числу подходящих первых мономеров принадлежит стирол, а к числу подходящих вторых мономеров принадлежат метилакрилат натрия и диметилакрилат цинка. Разветвлённые ароматические иономеры можно использовать для изготовления изделий, включая вспененный полистирол, а также посуду и утварь для микроволновых печей.
