A method for improving the precision of IEEE 1588 timestamp relates to the PTN/IPRAN system field. The method comprises the following steps: in the receiving direction, the receiving timestamp is corrected by using the receiving delay correction value; the reception delay correction value comprises a fifo delay, a port rate correction value and a clock domain switching related correction value inthe reception direction; and in the transmission direction, the transmission delay correction value is used to correct the transmission timestamp. The transmission delay correction value comprises a FIFO delay in the transmission direction and a port rate correction value. The invention can improve the precision of the time stamp, compensate the delay of the MAC to the PCS part in real time, and achieve more accurate time synchronization.
