This invention relates to a method for measuring the electrode-related electric quantities of an AC electric-arc furnace. The method observes the mutual correlation between electrode currents and the total power supplied to the furnace by employing the fast, natural fluctuation of the currents and the total power. Since only electrode currents and total power are measured, no neutral connection at the bottom of the furnace is needed. The desired quantities, i.e., the electrode-related voltages, impedances and powers are subsequently estimated on the basis of the mentioned observations.
It is further possible to split the electrode-related powers and voltages on the one hand in the powers and voltages of the electric-arc, and on the other hand in the power and voltage losses caused by resistive conduction. The estimation can be performed independently at the frequencies at which a significant transfer of energy takes place.
