CLAIMS

1. A network control entity (1 10) for a wireless communication network (100), wherein the wireless communication network (100) comprises a plurality of network nodes (103, 105), in particular base stations, wherein each network node (103, 105) defines a set of functions, in particular protocol functions, to communicate with a user equipment, UE,

(101 ) of the wireless communication network (100), wherein the network control entity (1 109 is adapted to:

select for a first network node (103), that communicates with the UE (101 ), a second network node (105);

configure the second network node (105) to concurrently, in particular, process at least a subset of functions of the first network node (103) for communicating with the UE (101 ); and

trigger the second network node (105) to provide the subset of functions to the UE (101 ).

2. The network control entity (1 10) of claim 1 , wherein the network control entity (1 10) is adapted to trigger the second network node (105) to provide the subset of functions to the UE (101 ), in case of a failure of the subset of functions of the first network node (103).

3. The network control entity (1 10) of claim 1 or 2, further adapted to configure the second network node (105) to provide the subset of functions of the first network node (103) for a defined time duration.

4. The network control entity (1 10) of any one of the preceding claims, further adapted to define the subset of functions of the first network node (103) for concurrently processing by the second network node (105).

5. The network control entity (1 10) of any one of the preceding claims, further adapted to provide configuration information to the first network node (103) and/or the second network node (105), wherein the configuration information comprises one or more of:

- an identifier of the first network node (103),

- an identifier of the second network node (105),

- network parameters

- protocol function parameters (L1 , L2, L3 protocols),

- resource configuration parameters,

- RRM policies,

- service type, and/or

- slice information.

6. The network control entity (1 10) of any one of the preceding claims, further adapted:

- to obtain network-related information, in particular from a fault management entity (205) located in a management plane of the wireless communication network (100) and/or from a network monitoring entity (201 ) located in a core network of the wireless communication network (100); and

- to select the first network node (103) and/or the second network node (105) on the basis of the network-related information.

7. The network control entity (1 10) of any one of the preceding claims, wherein the first network node (103) and/or the second network node (105) is one of:

- a base station, in particular a central unit or a distributed unit;

- a road side unit, in particular user equipment;

- a cloud-processing unit, in particular an operator-independent cloud processing unit.

8. The network control entity (1 10) of claim 7, wherein the functions of the first network node (103) and the second network node (105) comprise a plurality of communication layers for exchanging information with the user equipment.

The network control entity (1 10) of claim 6, wherein the functions of the first network node and the second network node comprise a respective communication interface with a core network of the wireless communication network (100) and wherein the second network node (105) is configured to provide, in case of a failure of the communication interface of the first network node (103) with the core network, the communication interface of the first network node (103) with the core network by acting as a relay using the communication interface of the second network node (105) with the core network for exchanging data with the user equipment (101 ).

A first network node, in particular base station, (103) of a wireless communication network (100), wherein the first network node (103) defines a set of functions, in particular protocol functions, to communicate with a user equipment, UE, (101 ) of the wireless communication network (100), wherein the first network node (103) is adapted, in response to a failure of a subset of functions of the first network node (103), to provide the set of functions of the first network node (103) on the basis of the other functions of the first network node (103) and a subset of functions provided by a second network node

(105) of the wireless communication network (101 ).

1 1. The first network node (103) of claim 10, wherein the first network node (103) is adapted to provide session information about a session for exchanging information with the user equipment (101 ) to the second network node (105).

12. The first network node (103) of claim 10 or 1 1 , wherein the first network node (103) is adapted to provide context information about the user equipment (101 ), in particular an UE identifier, to the second network node (105).

13. The first network node (103) of any one of claims 10 to 12, wherein the first network node (103) and/or the second network node (105) is one of:

- a base station, in particular a central unit or a distributed unit;

a road side unit, in particular user equipment;

a cloud-processing unit, in particular an operator-independent cloud processing unit.

14. The first network node (103) of claim 13, wherein the functions of the first network node (103) and the second network node (105) comprise a plurality of communication layers for exchanging information with the user equipment (101 ).

15. The first network node (103) of claim 13, wherein the functions of the first network node (103) and the second network node (105) comprise a respective communication interface with a core network of the wireless communication network (100) and wherein the second network node (105) is configured to provide, in case of a failure of the communication interface of the first network node (103) with the core network, the communication interface of the first network node (103) with the core network by acting as a relay using the communication interface of the second network node (105) with the core network for exchanging data with the user equipment (101 ).

16. A second network node, in particular base station, (105) of a wireless

communication network (100), wherein the second network node (105) defines a set of functions, in particular protocol functions to communicate with a user equipment, UE,

(101 ) of the wireless communication network (100), wherein the second network node (105) is configured to concurrently process at least a subset of functions of a first network node (103) to communicate with the UE (101 ) and to provide the subset of functions to the UE (101 ).

The second network node (105) of claim 16, wherein the second network node (105) is adapted to receive configuration information from a network control entity (1 10) of the wireless communication network (100), wherein the configuration information configures the second network node (105) to provide, in response to a failure of the subset of functions of the first network node (103), the subset of functions.

The second network node (105) of claim 16 or 17, wherein the second network node (105) is adapted to notify the first network node (103) and/or a network control entity (1 10) of the wireless communication network (100) that the second network node (105) is configured, in response to a failure of the subset of functions of the first network node (103), to provide the subset of functions.

19. The second network node (105) of any one of claims 16 to 18, wherein the first network node (103) and/or the second network node (105) is one of:

- a base station, in particular a central unit or a distributed unit;

- a road side unit, in particular user equipment;

- a cloud-processing unit, in particular an operator-independent cloud processing unit.

20. The second network node (105) of claim 19, wherein the functions of the first network node (103) and the second network node (105) comprise a plurality of

communication layers for exchanging information with the user equipment (101 ).

The second network node (105) of claim 19, wherein the plurality of functions of the first network node (103) and the second network node (105) comprise a respective communication interface with a core network of the wireless communication network (100) and wherein the second network node (105) is configured to provide, in case of a failure of the communication interface of the first network node (103) with the core network, the communication interface of the first network node (103) with the core network by acting as a relay using the communication interface of the second network node (105) with the core network for exchanging data with the user equipment (101 ).

22. A wireless communication network (100) comprising a network control entity (1 10) according to any one of claims 1 to 9, a first network node (103) according to any one of claims 10 to 15 and a second network node (105) according to any one of claims 16 to 21.
