Claims

1 . Barium sulfate particles which are treated and at least partially covered with at least one polysiloxane of the general Formula I,

Wherein:

n is an integer from 10 to 100, preferably 20 to 60;

R1 to R7 may be the same or different and are selected from the group consisting of:

CmH2m+i, wherein m is <10, preferably <6, more preferably <4, and even more preferably m = 1 , 2 or 3, and fluorinated derivatives thereof wherein at least one hydrogen atom is replaced by fluorine, such as

(EO)x, (PO)y and copolymers thereof, wherein EO represents an oxyethylene unit, PO represents an oxypropylene unit and x and y may be the same or different and x + y is in the range of 1 to 50, and R8 is an alkyl group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms, optionally having O in the chain, or an oxyalkylene group having 1 to 3 carbon atoms and polymers thereof being selected from (EO)x, (PO)y and copolymers thereof, wherein EO represents an oxyethylene unit, PO represents an oxypropylene unit and x and y may be the same or different and x + y is in the range of 1 to 50, said alkyl group or oxyalkylene group having at least one epoxy group.

2. Barium sulfate particles according to claim 1 , wherein, in the at least one polysiloxane of the general Formula I,

n is an integer from 10 to 100, preferably 20 to 60;

R1 to R3 and R5 to R7 may be the same or different and are selected from the group consisting of:

CmH2m+i , wherein m is <10, preferably <6, more preferably <4, and even more preferably m = 1 , 2 or 3, and fluorinated derivatives thereof wherein at least one hydrogen atom is replaced by fluorine, such as

(EO)x, (PO)y and copolymers thereof, wherein EO represents an oxyethylene unit, PO represents an oxypropylene unit and x and y may be the same or different and x + y is in the range of 1 to 50, and

R4 and R8 are the same or different and each represents an alkyl group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms, optionally having O in the chain, or an oxyalkylene group having 1 to 3 carbon atoms and polymers thereof being selected from (EO)x, (PO)y and copolymers thereof, wherein EO represents an oxyethylene unit, PO represents an oxypropylene unit and x and y may be the same or different and x + y is in the range of 1 to 50, said alkyl group or oxyalkylene group having at least one epoxy group.

Barium sulfate particles according to claim 1 or 2, wherein R4 and R8 are the same or different and each represents an alkyl group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms, optionally having O in the chain, said alkyl group having at least one epoxy-alkyl- or oxyalkylene-group with two up to six carbon atoms.

Barium sulfate particles according to any of claims 1 , 2 or 3, wherein the at least one polysiloxane is polydi-Ci-C6-alkylsiloxane having at least one terminal glycidyloxy-C2-C6-alkyl group.

Barium sulfate particles according to anyone of claims 1 to 4, wherein the at least one polysiloxane is present in an amount of 0.01 and 5 wt-%, preferably between 0,1 and 2 wt-%, more preferably between 0,1 and 1 wt-% of the barium sulfate particles, calculated on the total weight of the coated pigment after drying at 160°C to weight constancy.

Barium sulfate particles according to anyone of claims 1 to 5 wherein the barium sulfate is inorganically or organically pretreated.

7. Method for producing a coated barium sulfate particles according to any of claims 1 to 6 comprising the step of treating barium sulfate particles with at least one polysiloxane of the general Formula I,


wherein n, and R1 to R8 have the meaning as defined in any of claims 1 to 6, optionally in a solvent, selected from the group comprising aliphatic Ci to Ce alcohols and ethers, preferably at ambient temperature up to 100°C.

Method according to claim 7, wherein the step of treating the barium sulfate particles with said at least one polysiloxane of the general Formula I is carried out for less than 12 h, preferably less than 6 h, moire preferably less than 4h, most preferably between 0.25 to 2 h.

9. Method according to anyone of claims 7 or 8, wherein treating comprises spraying, milling and/or kneading.

Barium sulfate particles treated and at least partially coated with at least one polysiloxane of the general Formula I, obtainable by a method as claimed in any of claims 7 to 9.

1 1 . Polymer comprising barium sulfate particles according to any of claims 1 to 6 or according to claim 10.

12. Polymer according to claim 1 1 , wherein the polymer comprises a thermoplastic, selected from polyacrylates, polyamides, polyalkylenes, polyethers, polyesters, PET, in particular polyamides and PET.

13. Method for producing a polymer as claimed in claims 1 1 or 12 comprising adding barium sulfate particles according to one of claims 1 to 6 or 10 to a polymer, mixing the obtained polymer-pigment combination and subjecting the obtained mixture to a plastics forming process, preferably an injection molding process, a compression molding process, a pressing process or an extrusion process whereby a masterbatch or a moulded article is obtained.

14. Method according to claim 13, wherein the method is carried out at a temperature in the range of 200°C to 450°C, preferably in the range of 250°C to 370°C.

15. Moulded article, obtainable by the method of any of claims 13 or 14, preferably in the form of a PET-film, in particular a BOPET film.
