WE CLAIM:

1. A cable tie (300), comprising:

a tie head (340) having an insertion side (350), an extension side (360) opposite the insertion side (350), and an orifice (510) extending therethrough from the insertion side (350) to the extension side (360);

a cable tie strap (310) extending from the tie head (340) having a first strap end (320) configured to be received within the orifice (510) and a second strap end (330) attached to the tie head (340); and

a tail cut off guard (385) extending a guard distance (420) from the extension side (360) of the tie head (340).

2. The cable tie (300) according claim 1, wherein the tail cut off guard (385) comprises a pair of walls (385) that flank the orifice (510), each wall (385) of the pair of walls (385) having a thickness (550).

3. The cable tie (300) according to claim 1 or 2, wherein the pair of walls (385) of the tail cut off guard (385) each define a radius.

4. The cable tie (300) according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the pair of walls (385) of the tail cut off guard (385) each define a semicircular shape having a radius equal to the guard distance (420).

5. The cable tie (300) according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein a first portion of the first strap end (320) is disposed within the orifice (510) and a second portion (1510) of the first strap end (320) extends from the orifice (510) beyond the

extension side (360) of the tie head (340), said second portion (1510) of the first strap end (320) having an extension length (L4) that is less than or equal to the guard distance (420).

6. The cable tie (300) according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the tail cut off guard (385) is formed of a different material than the tie head (340).

7. The cable tie (300) according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the tie head (340) defines a first lateral side (370) and a second lateral side (375) and wherein the wherein the pair of walls (385) of the tail cut off guard (385) are substantially parallel to the first lateral side (370) and the second lateral side (375).

8. A method of forming a cable tie (300), comprising the steps of:

providing a cable tie mold (800) having a tail cut off guard cavity (802); and injecting a first material into the cable tie mold (800), wherein a removable insert

(802) interfaces with at least a portion of the tail cut off guard cavity (802);

holding the first material in the cable tie mold (800) for a first curing time;

wherein a cable tie head cavity (804) creates a cavity for forming a tail cut off guard

(385);

modifying the cable tie mold (800) by removing the removable insert (802), thereby creating a modified cable tie head cavity (808);

injecting a second material into the modified cable tie head cavity (808); and holding the first material and the second material in the cable tie mold (800) for a second curing time.

9. The method of forming a cable tie (300) according to claim 7, further comprising the steps of:

maintaining the cable tie (300) within the cable tie mold (800) during the step of modifying the cable tie mold.

10. The method of forming a cable tie (300) according to claim 7, further comprising the steps of:

removing the cable tie (300) from the cable tie mold (800) prior the step of modifying the cable tie mold; and

placing a portion of the cable tie (300) in the cable tie mold (800) prior to injecting the second material into the cable tie mold (800).

11. A method of forming a cable tie (300), comprising the steps of:

providing a first cable tie mold (900) having a tail cut off guard cavity (902); injecting a first material into the first cable tie mold (900),

holding the first material in the first cable tie mold (900) for a first curing time, thereby creating the cable tie (300);

removing the cable tie (300) from the first cable tie mold (900)

placing the cable tie (300) in a second cable tie mold (950) having a cable tie cavity and the tail cut off guard cavity (902);

injecting a second material into the second cable tie mold (950) to substantially fill the tail cut off guard cavity (902),

holding the first material and the second material in the second cable tie mold (950) for a second curing time; and

removing the cable tie (300) having a tail cut off guard (385) from the second

cable tie mold (950).
