This patent document provides optical processing and switching of optical channels based on mode-division multiplexing (MDM) and wavelength division multiplexing (WDM). In one implementation, a method is provided for processing different optical signal channels to include receiving different input optical signal channels in different optical waveguide modes and in different wavelengths; converting input optical signal channels in multimodes into single-mode optical signal channels, respectively; subsequent to the conversion, processing single-mode optical signal channels obtained from the different input optical signal channels to re-group single-mode optical signal channels into different groups of processed single-mode optical signal channels; and converting different groups of the processed single-mode optical signal channels into different groups of output optical signal channels containing one or more optical signal channels in multimodes multimode signals to direct the groups as different optical outputs.

La présente invention concerne le traitement optique et la commutation de canaux optiques sur la base du multiplexage par répartition de mode (MDM) et du multiplexage par répartition en longueur d'onde (WDM). Dans un mode de réalisation, l'invention concerne un procédé de traitement de différents canaux de signaux optiques qui comprend les étapes suivantes : réception de différents canaux de signal optique d'entrée dans différents modes de guide d'ondes optique et dans des longueurs d'onde différentes; conversion de canaux de signal optique d'entrée dans plusieurs modes en canaux de signal optique à mode unique, respectivement; après la conversion, traitement de canaux de signal optique à mode unique obtenus à partir des différents canaux de signal optique d'entrée pour regrouper des canaux de signal optique à mode unique en différents groupes de canaux de signal optique à mode unique traités; et conversion de différents groupes des canaux de signal optique en mode unique traités dans différents groupes de canaux de signal optique de sortie contenant un ou plusieurs canaux de signal optique en signaux multimodes pour diriger les groupes sous la forme de différentes sorties optiques.
