Claims
[1] A system for providing a supplementary information service related to broadcast content, the system comprising:
a Presentation Time Stamp (PTS) information creating server for receiving
various types of broadcast content and programming information about the
broadcast content from a broadcasting system, identifying information about a
start time of specific broadcast content, extracting PTS information corresponding to the start time of the corresponding broadcast content from the
broadcast content, and transmitting the extracted PTS information together with absolute time information; and
a supplementary information service providing server for storing various pieces of supplementary information corresponding to the broadcast content, receiving the information about the start time of the broadcast content and the PTS information corresponding to the start time information from the PTS information creating server, associating a specific scene of the broadcast content with corresponding supplementary information, and providing the associated specific
scene and corresponding supplementary information through a communication infrastructure at a request of a user terminal.
[2] The system as set forth in claim 1, wherein the PTS information creating server extracts PTS information corresponding to the start time from a Moving Picture Experts Group Transport Stream (MPEG-TS) included in the broadcast content.

[3] The system as set forth in claim 1, wherein the supplementary information
service providing server recognizes a start time point of the broadcast content
from the MPEG-TS, included in the broadcast content, based on the PTS information provided by the PTS information creating server.
[4] The system as set forth in claim 1, wherein the supplementary information
service providing server calculates an elapsed time for the specific scene based on PTS information corresponding to the information about the start time of the broadcast content and PTS information about an image frame of the specific
scene provided by the user terminal, and thus extracts the supplementary information corresponding to the specific scene requested by the user terminal.
[5] A system for providing a supplementary information service related to broadcast content, the system comprising:
a PTS information creating server for receiving broadcast content, broadcast
programming information corresponding to the broadcast content, and bidirectional data broadcasting supplementary information over a broadcasting
network, extracting PTS information for playing the broadcast content from in- formation about the broadcast content, provided over the broadcasting network, in a user terminal, creating Composition Time Stamp (CTS) information for
temporally synchronizing the PTS information with the bidirectional data
broadcasting supplementary information, and transmitting bidirectional data
broadcasting supplementary information, including the CTS information, and the PTS information; and
a supplementary information service providing server for managing the PTS information, the bidirectional data broadcasting supplementary information,
including the CTS information, and the broadcast programming information so
that the PTS information, the bidirectional data broadcasting supplementary information, and the broadcast programming information are matched to each other by performing service interworking through reception of the broadcast
programming information, extracting the bidirectional data broadcasting supplementary information based on the PTS information included in a service
request of the user terminal, and transferring the extracted bidirectional data
broadcasting supplementary information to the user terminal.
[6] The system as set forth in claim 5, wherein the PTS information creating server identifies a communication environment for at least one of an amount of information received from the broadcasting system and an amount of information transmitted to the supplementary information service providing server, and
determines whether to create the bidirectional data broadcasting supplementary
information including the CTS information.
[7] The system as set forth in claim 6, wherein, if, as a result of the determination, it is determined that the bidirectional data broadcasting supplementary information including the CTS information is not to be created, the PTS information creating server transfers the PTS information to the supplementary information service
providing server.
[8] The system as set forth in claim 7, wherein the supplementary information
service providing server creates the bidirectional data broadcasting supplementary information, including the CTS information, based on the reception
of the PTS information.
[9] The system as set forth in claim 5, wherein the supplementary information
service providing server is provided with the broadcast programming information by monitoring Program Specific Information/Service Information (PSFSI) information broadcast over the broadcasting network, or is provided with the
broadcast programming information through the PTS information creating
server.
[10] The system as set forth in claim 5, wherein the supplementary information service providing server converts the bidirectional data broadcasting supplementary information, including the CTS information, into a Binary Format
For Scene (BIFS) format, and stores the converted bidirectional data
broadcasting supplementary information.
[11] The system as set forth in claim 5, wherein the PTS information creating server comprises:
an interfacing unit for interworking with the broadcasting network and the supplementary information service providing server;
a communication environment identifying unit for identifying a communication environment for at least one of an amount of information received over the
broadcasting network and an amount of information transmitted to the supplementary information service providing server; and
an information creating/transmitting unit for determining whether to create the
bidirectional data broadcasting supplementary information including the CTS information based on a result of the identification of the communication environment, and transmitting at least one of the bidirectional data broadcasting
supplementary information, including the CTS information, and the PTS information to the supplementary information service providing server.
[12] The system as set forth in claim 5, wherein the supplementary information
service providing server comprises:
a synchronizing unit for synchronizing the broadcast content with the bidirectional data broadcasting supplementary information based on time interworking information about the broadcast content transmitted from a
broadcasting system, the PTS information, and the CTS information;
an interfacing unit for interworking with any one of the broadcasting network
and the communication network;
a content managing unit for converting the bidirectional data broadcasting supplementary information, including the CTS information, into a BIFS format and storing the converted bidirectional data broadcasting supplementary information; and
a control unit for performing a process of transferring the bidirectional data
broadcasting supplementary information, including the CTS information, to the user terminal via a protocol for exchanging messages with the user terminal
based on the communication network.
[13] A system for providing a supplementary information service related to broadcast content, the system comprising a supplementary information service providing
server for providing information about types of supplementary information
available for each object displayed on a DMB screen, and a content server for providing content of supplementary information available for each object, the
system providing a user of a user terminal with supplementary information about persons, products, etc. displayed on the DMB screen, wherein the supplementary information service providing server comprises:
a Product Placement (PPL) information database for storing PPL information,
including guide information for selecting an object displayed on a broadcast
screen, information about types of supplementary information available for each object, and content URL information for enabling each supplementary information content to be downloaded, for each broadcast program;
a PPL information searching unit for, when a PPL information request message including channel information and program information of broadcasting is
received from a user terminal, searching the PPL information database for PPL
information about a corresponding broadcast program based on information
included in the PPL information request message, and providing URL information for enabling corresponding PPL information to be downloaded to the user terminal; and
a PPL information downloading unit for downloading corresponding PPL information when the user terminal accesses the URL.
[14] The system as set forth in claim 13, wherein:
when the user selects a Graphic User Interface in Picture (GUIP) start key in the user terminal, PTS information, indicating a playback time of a broadcast
program that is being watched, is extracted from DMB data, and
the supplementary information service providing server receives the PPL information request message including the extracted PTS information.
[15] The system as set forth in claim 14, wherein the PPL information searching unit receives a PPL information request message including PTS information,
indicating a playback time of a broadcast program that is being watched, from
the user terminal, and searches for PPL information about portions, to be subsequently watched, based on corresponding PTS information.
[16] The system as set forth in claim 13, wherein the PPL information downloading
unit partitions PPL information, to be downloaded to the user terminal, into
specific size information in order to distribute a communication network traffic load, and sequentially downloads respective pieces of partitioned PPL information.
[17] The system as set forth in claim 16, wherein the supplementary information
service providing server sequentially downloads respective pieces of partitioned PPL information at specific intervals, and stops downloading of the PPL information when there is no response from the user terminal for a specific period of time.
[18] The system as set forth in claim 13, wherein when information about any one of a full pre-download method and a partitioned pre-download method, that is,
download methods of the PPL information, is included in the PPL information
request message, the PPL information downloading unit downloads overall PPL information at once in a case of the full pre-download method, and partitions
PPL information, to be downloaded, into specific size information and sequentially downloads the respective pieces of partitioned PPL information in a
case of the partitioned pre-download method, based on the included information.

[19] The system as set forth in claim 13, wherein the supplementary information
service providing server further comprises a GUIP service controlling unit for
receiving a GUIP start request message, including channel information and
program information of a broadcast being watched, from the user terminal when the user selects a GUIP start key, and transmitting a GUIP start acknowledgement message, including information included in a received GUIP
start request message, to the user terminal so that the information is checked by the user or the terminal.
[20] The system as set forth in claim 13, wherein information about a download
method is transmitted to the supplementary information service providing server in such a way that information about a download method is included in the PPL information request message based on information about a download method
previously set in the user terminal, or a download method is requested to be
selected when the user selects a GUIP start key and information about the
selected download method information is included in the GUIP start request
message.
[21] The system as set forth in claim 13, wherein:
the guide information included in the PPL information includes contour information of an object; and
the supplementary information service providing server enables the user terminal to display contours of objects when the user selects a key so that the user can
select a desired object, and outputs types of supplementary information available for the selected object when a specific object is selected so that the user can
select any one type of supplementary information.
[22] A system for providing a supplementary information service related to broadcast content, the system comprising a supplementary information service providing
server for providing information about types of supplementary information
available for each object displayed on a DMB screen, and a content server for
providing content of supplementary information available for each object, the system providing a user of a user terminal with supplementary information about persons, products, etc. displayed on the DMB screen, wherein the supplementary information service providing server comprises:
a PPL information database for storing PPL information, including guide information for selecting an object displayed on a broadcast screen, information
about types of supplementary information available for each object, and content URL information for enabling supplementary information content to
downloaded, for each broadcasting program; and
a GUIP information providing unit for, when the user selects a specific point of a broadcast screen, and thus a GUIP information request message, including
channel information and program information of a broadcast currently being
watched, and coordinate information of the selected point, is received from the
user terminal, identifying an object of the point selected by the user with
reference to the PPL information database based on information included in the GUIP information request message, and transmitting a GUIP information acknowledgement message, including information about types of supplementary
information available for each corresponding object and content URL information for enabling each supplementary information content to be
downloaded, to the user terminal.
[23] The system as set forth in claim 22, wherein the GUIP information providing
unit receives the GUIP information request message including PTS information, indicating a playback time of a broadcast program extracted by the user terminal and currently being watched, from the user terminal, and identifies an object,
selected by the user, based on corresponding PTS information and coordinate information of the selected point.
[24] The system as set forth in claim 22, wherein the supplementary information
service providing server further comprises a GUIP service controlling unit for
receiving a GUIP start request message, including channel information and
program information of a broadcast currently being watched, from the user
terminal when the user selects a GUIP start key, and transmitting a GUIP start
acknowledgement message, including information included in the received GUIP start request message, to the user terminal so that the information is checked by the user or the terminal.
