An encoded video signal is to be processed so that the resulting display at a decoder is of shorter (or, as desired, longer) than envisaged at the time of encoding. The video signal contains one or more a timing parameters that, at a decoder, are to be determinative of the frame rate at which the signal is decoded. The method comprises buffering the incoming video signal, computing from the timing parameter(s) and the specified compression (or expansion) at least one modified parameter, and outputting the video signal with the modified timing parameter(s) in place of the received timing parameter. The parameters may include a parameter specifying a frame rate, at least one timestamp specifying a time at which a frame is to be decoded, and/or at least one timestamp specifying a time at which a frame is to be decoded.

L'invention propose le traitement d'un signal vidéo codé, de telle sorte que l'affichage résultant au niveau d'un décodeur soit plus court (ou, si on le souhaite, plus long) que ce qui avait été envisagé au moment du codage. Le signal vidéo contient un ou plusieurs paramètres de synchronisation qui, au niveau d'un décodeur, doivent être déterminant pour la vitesse de trame à laquelle le signal est décodé. Le procédé comprend la mise en tampon du signal vidéo entrant, le calcul à partir du ou des paramètres de synchronisation et de la compression (ou de l'expansion) spécifiée d'au moins un paramètre modifié, et l'émission du signal vidéo comportant le ou les paramètres de synchronisation modifiés au lieu du paramètre de synchronisation reçu. Les paramètres peuvent comprendre un paramètre spécifiant une vitesse de trame, au moins un horodateur spécifiant une date à laquelle une trame doit être codée, et/ou au moins un horodateur spécifiant une date à laquelle une trame doit être décodée.
