Optical assay apparatus (11) and methods having an optical assay cup (10) for detecting analytes (52) in a sample fluid. The cup's sidewall (14) may include an optical waveguide (28) having a detection coating (50) on its inner surface (32). During use, the waveguide (28) receives evanescent or darkfield interrogation light (24a, 24b), interrogates the cup's interior volume (68) with it, and emits signal light (58) as a function of the analytes. The detection coating may have fluid or non-fluid detection layers (51a-c), at least part of which may form at least part of a waveguide (29) for the interrogation light. The cup may be spun during use, such as to centrifugal ly-concentrate any high-density analytes towards cup's sidewall. The assay apparatus may further include an interrogation light source (26), a cover (16) or spinning apparatus (25) for the cup, and an optical detector (60) for the signal light.

Appareil (11) et procédés de dosage optique utilisant un bécher de dosage optique (10) en vue de détecter des analytes (52) dans un échantillon de fluide. La paroi latérale (14) du bécher peut comporter un guide d'ondes optiques (28) dont la surface intérieure (32) est enduite d'un revêtement de détection (50). En pratique, le guide d'ondes optiques (28) reçoit une lumière d'interrogation évanescente ou sur fond noir (24a, 24b), l'utilise pour interroger le volume intérieur (68) du bécher, et émet un signal lumineux (58) en fonction des analytes présents. Le revêtement de détection peut comporter des couches de détection fluides ou non fluides (51a-c), pouvant au moins partiellement former un guide d'ondes (29) pour la lumière d'interrogation. Le bécher peut, en pratique, être entraîné en rotation de manière à concentrer par force centrifuge les analytes à haute densité éventuellement présents vers la paroi latérale du bécher. L'appareil de dosage optique peut comporter en outre une source (26) de lumière d'interrogation, un couvercle (16) ou un dispositif de rotation (25) pour le bécher, et un détecteur optique (60) pour le signal lumineux.
