WHAT IS CLAIMED IS:

1. An anchor device, comprising:
an elongate body having a body wall that at least partially defines a lumen;
a subcutaneous anchor mechanism coupled to the elongate body, the subcutaneous anchor mechanism having one or more non-retractable barbs that extend away from the body wall when in a deployed orientation in a subcutaneous layer,
wherein the non-retractable barbs are flexibly bendable to a removal orientation when the anchor mechanism is withdrawn from the subcutaneous layer and out through a dermis layer.

2. The anchor device of claim 1, wherein the non-retractable barbs extend from the body wall in an arcuate manner when in the deployed orientation.

3. The anchor device of claim 2, wherein at least a portion of the non-retractable barbs extend proximally away from the body wall in an arcuate manner when in the deployed orientation.

4. The anchor device of claim 2, wherein at least one of the non-retractable barbs has a free end.

5. The anchor device of claim 2, wherein at least one of the non-retractable barbs comprises a loop member having fixed ends.

6. The anchor device of claim 1 , wherein at least a portion of each non- retractable barb comprises nitinol, the nitinol being processed to exhibit superelasticity at about 37° C.

7. The anchor device of claim 6, wherein the barbs are integrally formed with one another.

8. The anchor device of claim 1 , wherein the elongate body is a catheter body and the body wall is a catheter wall.

9. The anchor device of claim 1, wherein the elongate body is a sleeve body 5 and the body wall is a sleeve wall to slidably receive a catheter or medical
instrument.

10. The anchor device of claim 1, wherein at least a portion of the anchor
mechanism extends into the body wall to secure the anchor mechanism to the o elongate body.

1 1. The anchor device of claim 1, wherein the body wall defines a channel, neck, or groove to accommodate at least one barb when the barb is flexed toward the body wall so as to maintain an outer dimension of the body wall during insertion 5 through the dermis layer.

12. The anchor device of claim 1, wherein at least a portion of the anchor
mechanism comprises at least one polymer material selected from the group consisting of a PEEK material, a polyurethane material, a polyethylene material, 0 a polyimide material.

13. A subcutaneous anchor mechanism, comprising:
a base attachable to a medical device; and
at least one non-retractable barb coupled to the base, the non-retractable 5 barb extending from the base such that, when the base is attached to the medical device, the non-retractable barb extends away from the medical device when in a deployed orientation in a subcutaneous layer,
wherein the non-retractable barb is flexibly bendable to a removal
orientation when the non-retractable barb is withdrawn from the subcutaneous 0 layer and out through a dermis layer.

14. The subcutaneous anchor mechanism of claim 13, wherein at least a portion of the non-retractable barb extends away from the base in an arcuate manner when in the deployed orientation.

15. The subcutaneous anchor mechanism of claim 14, wherein the non-retractable barb has a free end.

16. The subcutaneous anchor mechanism of claim 14, further comprising a second base, wherein the non-retractable barb comprises a loop member a first end attached to the base and having a second end attached to the second base.

17. The subcutaneous anchor mechanism of claim 13, wherein at least a portion of the non-retractable barb comprises nitinol, the nitinol exhibiting
superelasticity below or at a normal human body temperature.

18. The subcutaneous anchor mechanism of claim 17, wherein the barb is integrally formed with the base.

19. The subcutaneous anchor mechanism of claim 13, wherein at least a portion of the non-retractable barb comprises at least one polymer material selected from the group consisting of a PEEK material, a polyurethane material, a polyethylene material, a polyimide material.

20. An anchor device, comprising:
an elongate body having a body wall that at least partially defines a lumen;
means for subcutaneously anchoring the elongate body to a portion of skin, the subcutaneous anchor means being coupled to the elongate body and including means for non-retractably withdrawing from a deployed orientation in a subcutaneous layer to a bent orientation when passing through a dermis layer.

21. The anchor device of claim 20, wherein the means for non-retractably withdrawing comprises one or more non-retractable barbs that extend away from the body wall when deployed in the subcutaneous layer.
22. The anchor device of claim 21, wherein at least a portion of the non-retractable barb comprises nitinol, the nitinol exhibiting superelasticity below or at a normal human body temperature.

23. The anchor device of claim 22, wherein the means for non-retractably withdrawing further comprises a base, the barb being integrally formed with a base.

24. The anchor device of claim 21, wherein at least a portion of the non-retractable barb comprises at least one polymer material selected from the group consisting of a PEEK material, a polyurethane material, a polyethylene material, a polyimide material.
