CLAIMS
1. Loudspeaker comprising a panel member as resonant acoustic radiator relying on bending wave action and a driver coupled to the panel member to cause bending waves therein, characterised in that the mass and/or bending capability of the panel member is altered or otherwise different locally of the driver as coupled to the panel member
2. Loudspeaker according to claim 1, wherein the locally altered or different mass and/or bending capability is substantially within confines of or opposite area of the coupling of the driver to the panel member.
3. Loudspeaker according to claim 2, wherein the locally altered/different mass and/or bending capability is substantially concentric with the driver.
4. Loudspeaker according to claim 1,2 or 3, wherein the mass and/or bending stiffness of the panel member is made locally less the coupling to the driver.
5. Loudspeaker according to claim 4, having a hole in the panel member at said coupling.
6. Loudspeaker according to claim 5 , wherein the hole is of constant cross-section into and/or throughout thickness of the panel member.
7. Loudspeaker according to any preceding claim, wherein the driver is of magnet-and-moving coil type.
8. Loudspeaker according to claim 5,6 or 7, wherein the hole is of cross-section less than area within the coupling of the driver to the panel member.

9. Loudspeaker according to claim 8, wherein extent to which said cross-section is less than said area is related to resultant effective raising of unwanted high frequency components .
5 10. Loudspeaker according to claim 5 or claim 6, wherein the hole is off cross-section mis-matching with area of said coupling to facilitate spaced connections involved in said coupling.
11. Loudspeaker according to claim 10 and claim 7, 10 wherein voice coil of the driver has said spaced connections about the hole.
12. Loudspeaker according to claim 7 with claim 5, wherein driver has its the voice coil include a former extending into the hole in the panel member.
15 13. Loudspeaker according to claim 12, wherein the voice coil former extends throughout thickness of the panel member .
14. Loudspeaker according to claim 7,11,12 or 13, wherein the driver has a pole piece extending into the hole.
20 15. Loudspeaker according to claim 1,2 or 3, wherein the panel member has additional mass locally of the driver. 16. Loudspeaker according to claim 1,2,3 or 15, wherein the panel member has additional damping means locally of the driver.
25 17. Loudspeaker according to claim 16 and claim 7, wherein the damping means comprises elastomeric material sandwiched between a pole-piece of the driver and surface of the pane] member.

18. Loudspeaker according to claim 17, wherein the damping means serves in compliant suspension of the driver relative to the panel member.
19. Loudspeaker according to any preceding claim, wherein the panel member has additional mass at least one position that is particularly suitable for coupling of a driver but not so used.
