We claim:
1. An isolated and purified organism containing salmon/red pigment.

2. An isolated and purified organism containing salmon/red pigment and insecticidal toxin.

3. An organism according to Claim 1 or 2 comprising the following characteristics:
a. capable of forming oval shaped spores which are located at polar ends of said organism;
b. a culture of vegetative cells of said organism consists of rod-shaped, motile, gram-positive cells;
c. sporangium of said organism are oval to cylindrical, not swollen, diamond-shaped to cubosidal, with a parasporal body formed in sporangium;
d. said organism being able to liquify gelatin, hydrolyzed starch and ferment glucose, fructose and sucrose;
e. colonies of said organism are medium-sized, slightly shiny with mostly flat, mostly smooth borders;
f. said organism in liquid medium forms heavy pellicles which tend to disintegrate into a flaky mass upon shaking; and
g. said organisms are positive for Voges-Proskauer reaction and produce acetylmethyl carbinol.

4. An organism according to Claim 3 wherein said spores are about 1 μm by about 1.9 μm.

5. An organism according to Claim 4 wherein said rod-shaped vegetative cells are approximately 1.5 μm to approximately 2.5 μm by
approximately 4.1 μm to approximately 6 μg.

6. An organism according to Claim 5 wherein said rod-shaped vegetative cells have rounded ends.

7. An organism according to Claim 6 wherein said organism is able to ferment glucose, fructose and sucrose after about 48 hours.

8. An organism according to Claim 7 which is incapable of
fermentation of lactose, mannitol or maltose.

9. An organism according to Claim 2 wherein said organism is a Bacillus thuringiensis subsp. oloke.

10. An organism according to Claim 9 wherein said Bacillus
thuringiensis subsp. oloke is the organism deposited at NRRL bearing accession number B21528.

11. An organism according to Claim 2 wherein said organism is a transformed E-coli capable of producing Bacillus thuringiensis subsp. oloke insecticidal toxin and salmon/red pigment.

12. An organism according to Claim 11 wherein said E-coli is the E-coli deposited at NRRL bearing accession number B21529.

13. A method of transforming an organism to obtain a transformant capable of producing Bacillus thuringiensis subsp. oloke insecticidal toxin by insertion of DNA message corresponding to said toxin into said organism and isolating a purifying said transformant.

14. A method of transforming an organism to obtain a transformant capable of producing salmon/red pigment by insertion of DNA message corresponding to said pigment into said organism and isolating and purifying said transformant.

15. A method of transforming an organism to obtain a transformant capable of producing Bacillus thuringiensis subsp. oloke insecticidal toxin and salmon/red pigment comprising the steps of:
a. preparation of plasmid DNA containing messages for Bacillus thuringiensis subsp. oloke insecticidal toxin and salmon/red pigment, from β. thuringiensis subsp. oloke or other suitable source of DNA and preparing said plasmid in a suitable ligation mixture;
b. combining said ligation mixture with E. coli;
c. identifying, isolating and purifying said transformant.

16. A method of transforming an organism according to claim 15 wherein said organism is E. coli.

17. An insecticidal toxin isolated from β. thuringiensis subsp. oloke, or any chemical equivalent thereof.

18. An insecticide comprising an effective amount of β. thuringiensis subsp. oloke.

19. An insecticide with reduced susceptibility to photoinactivation comprising a Bacillus thuringiensis which has been treated with an effective amount of salmon/red pigment.

20. A method for conferring reduced susceptibility to photoinactivation to a natural insecticide comprising the step of mixing an effective amount of salmon/red pigment with said insecticide.

21. A salmon/red pigment or any chemical equivalent thereof.

22. A salmon/red pigment produced by a salmon/red pigmented organism or any functional equivalent thereof.

23. A composition capable of conferring reduced susceptibility to photoradiation to a photoradiation sensitive recipient comprising an effective amount of salmon/red pigment and a suitable carrier.

24. A composition according to claim 23 wherein said recipient is a human being.

25. A method of conferring reduced susceptibility to photoradiation to a photoradiation sensitive recipient comprising combining an effective amount of salmon/red pigment with a suitable carrier and applying said combination topically to said recipient.

26. A method according to claim 25 wherein said recipient is a human being.
