THE CLAIMS DEFINING THE INVENTION ARE AS FOLLOWS:

1. A hinge comprising an inner part and an outer part,
an outer bearing surface on the inner part and an inner bearing surface on the outer part engaging the outer bearing surface thereby journalling the parts for relative rotary motion,
one of the bearing surfaces having a generally
elliptical shape and the other having a generally circular shape, and one at least of the parts comprising a resilient deformable material, there being an interference between said parts where the bearing surfaces engage, of sufficient magnitude to cause distortion of the generally circular surface.

2. A hinge according to claim 1 wherein said inner part comprises an attachment member and a projection unitary therewith, said elliptically shaped bearing surface being an outer surface of said projection.

3. A hinge according to claim 2 wherein said inner part has a discoid portion on an end of said attachment member, and said projection projects from said discoid portion.

4. A hinge according to claim 2 further comprising
retaining lugs on said projection retaining said inner and outer parts in an assembly.

5. A hinge according to claim 1 wherein said outer part comprises a ring, and said generally circular shaped bearing surface is an inner annular surface of the ring.

6. A hinge according to claim 5 further comprising an attachment member, and a U-shaped joining base joining the attachment member to the ring, the U-shaped joining base having a bridge portion spaced from the ring.

7. A hinge according to claim 1 further comprising a locking member having an elliptical stem,
said inner part comprising an attachment member having an outstanding projection, said generally elliptical bearing surface being a surface of said projection, an aperture through said projection, a slot bifurcating said disc and projection,
said outer part comprising an attachment, a ring unitary with the attachment, a joining base joining the ring to the attachment, said circular shaped bearing surface being an inner annular surface of the ring,
said locking member retaining the inner and outer parts in an assembly, with said stem extending through said
aperture, the eccentricity of the stem providing locking means which restrain hinging movement of the hinge parts upon rotation of the locking member.

8. A hinge according to claim 7 comprising a disc at one end of the locking member and a barb at the other end
thereof, said disc and barb retaining the inner and outer parts of the hinge against separation.

9. A hinge according to claim 7 wherein said projection aperture is defined by walls which are generally elliptical.

10. A hinge substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to and as illustrated in Figs. 1, 2, 3 and 4 of the drawings .

11. A hinge substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to and as illustrated in Figs. 5 to 13 inclusive of the drawings .
