CLAIMS

1. A regulated chopped DC power supply apparatus
characterised in that it comprises an alternator with a stator and a rotor, the alternator being wired to give a low .voltage output and a high voltage output, a control means to commutate a rectifier means arranged to
rectify the high voltage output from a high, voltage winding of the alternator to produce a substantially direct current output at the high voltage output, wherein the high voltage direct current output is arranged to be interrupted periodically.
2. A regulated chopped DC power supply apparatus
according to claim 1, characterised in that the control means is arranged to regulate the voltage of the high voltage direct current output to a value below a pre-determined maximum value in a first mode of operation and a regulator means arranged to regulate the voltage of at least the low voltage output to a.' value below a predetermined maximum value in a second mode of operation.

3. A regulated chopped DC power supply apparatus
according to claim 2, characterised in that it comprises a battery and the regulator means is arranged to indirectly regulate at least the voltage of the high voltage direct current output by monitoring the voltage of the low voltage output.
4. A regulated chopped DC power supply apparatus
according to any one of the preceding claims characterised in that the high voltage direct current output is
interrupted at a frequency in the range from 30Hz to
500Hz.

5. A regulated chopped DC power supply apparatus
according to claim 4 , characterised in that the
frequency is in the range from 50Hz to 200Hz.
6. A regulated chopped DC power supply apparatus
according to claim 5 , characterised in that the
frequency is about 100Hz.
7. A regulated chopped DC power supply apparatus
according to any one of the preceding claims,
characterised in that the high voltage direct current output is periodically interrupted and wherein the
resultant duty cycle of the periodic high, voltage direct current output is greater than 0%.
8. A regulated chopped DC power supply apparatus
according to claim 7, characterised in that the duty cycle is in the range from greater than 0% to 30%.
9. A regulated chopped DC power supply apparatus
according to claim 8 , characterised in that the duty cycle is in the range from 1% to 10%.
10. A regulated chopped DC power supply apparatus according to claim 9, characterised in that the duty cycle is about .5%.
11. A regulated chopped DC power supply apparatus according to any one of the preceding claims, characterised in that the alternator is wired to comprise a star
configuration winding arranged to produce the low voltage output and the stator comprises a field winding arranged to be excited by power derived from a star point of the low voltage output star configuration winding.
12. A power supply apparatus , characterised in that it comprises an alternator with a stator and a rotor, the alternator being wired to comprise a star configuration winding arranged to give a low voltage output, the stator comprising a field winding arranged to be excited by power derived from a star point of the low voltage output star configuration winding.
13. A power supply apparatus according to claim 12, characterised in that it comprises a battery arranged to excite the field winding in a first mode of
operation, the field winding being arranged to be excited by power derived from the star point in a second mode of operation.
14. A power supply apparatus according to claim 12, characterised in that the voltage of the star point in the second mode of operation is substantially greater than the voltage of the battery.

1. (Amended) A regulated chopped DC power supply apparatus characterised in that it comprises an alternator with a stator and a rotor, the alternator being wired to give a high voltage alternating output, a rectifier means arranged to rectify the high voltage alternating current output from a high voltage winding of the alternator to produce a direct current output at a high voltage direct current output and a control means, arranged to periodically interrupt the high voltage direct current output to produce a substantially direct current output at the high voltage direct current output.
2. (Amended) A regulated chopped DC power supply apparatus according to claim 1, characterised in that the control means is arranged to regulate the voltage of the high voltage direct currentoutput to a value below a predetermined maximum value in a first mode of operation.

3. (New) ' A regulated chopped DC power supply appartus according to claim 1 or 2, characterised in that it comprises a low voltage alternating current output, a further rectifier means to rectify the output from the low voltage alternating current output to produce a low voltage direct current output.
4. (New) A regulated chopped DC power supply apparatus according to claim 3, characterised in that it comprises a regulator means arranged to regulate the voltage of at least the low voltage direct current output to a value below a predetermined maximum value in a second mode of operation.
5. (Amended) A regulated chopped DC power supply apparatus according to claim 3, characterised in that it comprises a battery and the regulator means being arranged to indirectly regulate at least the voltage of the high voltage direct current output by monitoring the voltage of the low voltage direct current output.
6. (Original Claim 4) A regulated chopped DC power supply apparatus according to any one of the preceding claims characterised in that the high voltage direct current output is interrupted at a frequency in the range from 30Hz to 500Hz.
7. (Original claim 5) A regulated chopped DC power supply apparatus according to claim 6, characterised in that the frequency is in the range from 50Hz to 200Hz.
8. (Original Claim 6) A regulated .chopped DC power supply apparatus according o claim 7, characterised in that the frequency is about 100Hz.
9. (Original Claim 7) . A regulated chopped DC power supply apparatus according to any one of the preceding claims, characterised in that the high voltage direct current output is periodically interrupted and wherein the resultant duty cycle of the periodic high voltage direct current output is greater than 0%.
10. (Original Claim 8) . A regulated chopped DC power supply apparatus according to claim 9, characterised in that the duty cycle is in the range from greater than 0% to 30%.
11. (Original Claim 9) A regulated chopped DC power supply apparatus according to claim 10, characterisedin that the duty cycle is in the range from 1% to 10%.
12. (Original Claim 10). A' regulated chopped DC
power supply apparatus according to claim 11, characterised in that the duty cycle is about 5%.

3 to 11, characterised in that the alternator is wired to comprise a star configuration winding arranged to produce the low voltage alternating current output and the alternator comprising a field winding arranged to be excited by power derived from a star point of the star configuration winding.

(Amended) A power supply apparatus, characterised in that it comprises an alternator with a stator and a rotor, the alternator being wired to comprise a star configuration winding arranged to give a low voltage alternating current output, the alternator comprising a field winding arranged to be excited by power derived from a star point of the star configuration winding.
15. (Amended) A power supply apparatus according to claim 14, characterised in that it comprises a battery arranged to excite the field winding in a first mode of operation, and the field winding being arranged to be
additionally excited by power derived from the star point in a second mode of operation.
16. (Original Claim 14) A power supply apparatus
according to claim 15, characterised in that the voltage of the star point in the second mode of operation is
substantially greater than the voltage of the battery.

STATEMENT UNDER ARTICLE 19

The Article 19 Amendments have been made to clarify the definition of the invention appearing in claim 1 with regards to alternating current and direct current outputs. Also, the amendments have extended to remove an inessential feature from the definition of the invention of the invention in claim 1, namely a low voltage output from the alternator.
Further, amendments consequential to the amendments in claim 1 have been made in a number of the subsidiary claims.
