(EN)Apparatus is described for heating tissue and which is particularly useful for treating tumors in humans and animals. A radio frequency a-c electric current is caused to flow between two electrodes (31) and (32) directly through both the tumor (38) and the surrounding tissue (36). The current is controlled (13) to cause heating of the tumor and the surrounding tissue such that the tumor heats to a level sufficient to cause necrosis without substantial damage to the surrounding tissue. The electrical circuit exclusive of the tissue is designed to have an inductance and a capacitance resulting in a total inductive reactance and a total capacitive reactance in the circuit which are equal (and 180 out of phase).
(FR)Appareil de chauffage de tissus particulierement utile au traitement des tumeurs chez les personnes et les animaux. Un courant alternatif a frequence radio passe entre deux electrodes (31 et 32) directement a travers la tumeur (38) et les tissus environnants (36). On commande (13) le courant pour chauffer la tumeur et les tissus environnants de telle maniere que la tumeur soit chauffee suffisamment pour etre necrosee sans que les tissus environnants ne soient endommages. Le circuit electrique, en dehors des tissus, est concu avec une inductance et une capacite resultant en une reactance inductive totale et une reactance capacitive totale dans le circuit egales (et dephasees de 180 ).
